Topic: gear addiction

OK I think I have GAS covered for a while, but now I have AAS.  Amp Addiction syndrome!.  so far I have tosssed around a Randel RG 20, a  Joyo Mjolnir, Orange Tiny or micro terror and then back to BUGERA.

My heaviest want is the Tri Rec.  3 channels of pure amazing tube power stuffed with 5 x 12AX7 Preamp Tubes: 4 x 6L6   and 2 rectifier tubes !that are changeable with just about any tubes! ($700)
https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/TrirecInf

after that their 333 is pretty appetizing also.  same tube  changeability but is driven by 4 x EL34 tubes for huge tone - 3-channel preamp design - clean, crunch, and lead - features 4 x 12AX7 tubes for superior versatile tone  https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/333XLInf

Sorry for what sounds like an add but man! the tone!  Especially when you look a the price of the 20 watt Randall or orange. man! I want! LOLOL

They look cool, but i wouldn't have a clue on how to use them.  Way above my pay grade !  smile

I buy amps too. A lot of times it is a case of right place at the right time.

Re: gear addiction

You've had great success with the Bugera's over the years, Beamer, so "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." If you put either of those on a 4 x 12" cab with decent speakers, you'll be ready for everything.

Re: gear addiction

Well for now I think the 2x12 will work.  Really no where to put a 4x12,. But the 4x12 was such a good deal lol. I hope it's still around when I can get the head.  Wow that don't sound too good lololol.  anyway.  New amp head first.

Re: gear addiction

I hear ya loud and clear about the look, feel, and sound of a cool head sitting on top of a 4 x 12 slant-back cab. I have a Traynor YCS50 combo, but would much prefer to have the head version, sitting on a top of a 4 x 12. A great feature of the Traynor YCS (Custom Special) series is the USA / BRIT switch. It changes the placement of the tone stack in relation to the gain stage. The USA mode gives a crisp, detailed sound (think Fender, PRS) while the BRIT mode gives a grittier, aggressive tone (think Marshall, Vox).

This is my dream rig:

Re: gear addiction

Back in my bass days, I wanted a big dang Fender amp I don't recall the name of and also a Mesa Boogie amp head and 4x15 Hartke cabinet. Now I've got a little Hartke 1x10 and it does what I need it to. I had an Ampeg 1x15 practice cabinet that got water damaged, but the Hartke is a lot tighter. But nothing really projects and has the particular tone of Ampegs. I don't know much about guitar amps at all, but understand how you can get really excited about different tones from them.

I didn't know that Ampeg made anything but bass amps and speakers.

Re: gear addiction

Wow Beamer, you are taking it to the next level! 100w tube head...that would annoy my neighbors for blocks if I had it in my man-cave. I've never played through Bugera but the reviews are solid and the specs look great.

Re: gear addiction

Well Z its older, 70s sound, which is why I didn't go for it.   I would have meant still pushing my pedals into it to go the direction I want.

Thanks BGD.  I figure I have always been the guy who says ,, My ability don't warrant that kind of power,  but you know what? After all is said and done,  I just gotta get it!  (besides is goes from 1 to 100 watts with full tube saturation!) AND I have a basement surround on 3 sides by dirt LOLOL

Re: gear addiction

70's sound? Maybe that's why I liked them!

I look forward to hearing your new amp. I'll keep an ear out.

(for those not in the know - Beamer lives about as far from me as is possible and still be in the contiguous 48 states. Normtheguitar, across the Pacific Ocean, lives only slightly further away)
