Topic: THE CHORDIANS WHO ARE THEY, WHERE ARE THEY FROM WHAT DO THEY THINK

CO WRITER: 25Frankster and I hope A LOT MORE
Isn't this a nice site? Everybody helps everybody.
There is so much ego on the other guitar sites it seems--everyone trying to be better than the next person, putting each other down, when in my way of thinking, we should be helping eachother out.  Not interested in the "you suck" pre pubescent talk you find on most guitar sites.

The title tells everything.
25frankster and me, have been looking on other guitar sites. READ WHAT FRANKSTER WROTE.
When they chat: most of them want to beat the other.
ME: I learned to be more modest, seeing "HOW MUCH" people have to do to PURCHASE THEIR DREAM INSTRUMENT. I also try to give as much information as I can, and sometimes, I know, it is more a statement than a question.

BUT THIS TOPIC SHOULD BE THE TOPIC OF THE YEAR, HOPING FOR A LOT OF ANSWERS.
WHO R U, HOW OLD YOUR FEELINGS ABOUT THIS SITE.
- I am born in 1955, love playing and collecting guitars. I love chordie very much. No question is stupid, no answer is stupid. Big EGO's, as we had one in the past, are "treated" with the same respect, but there are limits. I have learned a lot, I play 2x better since I am here (I couldn't believe this, but somebody who saw me playing in February saw me again and he said that there was a huge progression) because you see all styles, all chords, and try it out, realy simple.
Respect: yes, for everybody, we have the SAME PURPOSE: playing better.

Re: THE CHORDIANS WHO ARE THEY, WHERE ARE THEY FROM WHAT DO THEY THINK

gitaardocphil,
I feel that people will often boast about one thing that they are good at to hide the things that they are bad at.
It's one thing to be proud of yourself and proud of your accomplishments, but it's another to take it and try and jamm it down others faces.
A little side nudging here and there is great among friends, but arrogance is ignorance.

As for me I was born in 1970.
I've met lots of people, but I've never done that autograph thing. What's a piece of paper with someone's name on it for. I know I've met a few people in my life, why do I need a signature to prove it. My grandfather, or other older people would show me a picture, ballcard, an autograph or something of that nature and tell me all about the people that they met. Like I would ever doubt them or something. I didn't live during the halocaust and I wasn't there when president Kennedy was shot. So for someone to tell me about their past or where they've been is a great thing.
I love to read about how some of the fellow chordie people have taken trips, about their lives, and their music. I don't need to see a piece of paper or a picture to believe. Just hearing the stories is like being there myself.
I've found a lot of people on this site that I can drop a personal e-mail to every now and again. Old Doll is great. I talked with her a little and she even sent me a song. Sometimes you can take but a moment and it's like the person you've just met has been a friend to talk with for years.
I've received a lot of help with a few simple questions. This by far is the best site I've found.

If you're not happy with what you have...
Then you'll never be happy with what you get...

Re: THE CHORDIANS WHO ARE THEY, WHERE ARE THEY FROM WHAT DO THEY THINK

phew,
i dont have to reply, eagle has said exactly everything i could ,lol, I was born in 1970 too, and i agree with everything you typed.
I have also had a few e mails from people here wanting to ask me things without it being in the international eye. I dont mind getting or sending e mails. I love helping people when I know about something.

But eagle  you said "but arrogance is ignorance". I cannot get my head round this. I am thinking it doesnt make sense. Or the way I perceive these two words doesnt make sense. Arrogance is to be overwhelmingly assume, where ignorance is to not be aware of something.
hmmm, maybe it does make sense smoewhere, but not to me lol . I dont admit not understanding easy things sometimes lol

I am a member of quite a few forums that I visit on a daily basis to give my opinions or just to act the clown and enter something I tihnk is funny. ( and I always spell think wrong, ever noticed that?) But this site is I would say far better tha nthe rest for a community online, a near, very near second if not it is drawing with this site would be my bothy site I go to. All very friendly there and meet up very often to maintain bothies. But that is more of a national rather than international like chordie, so for international status chordie would win my vote for best.

Re: THE CHORDIANS WHO ARE THEY, WHERE ARE THEY FROM WHAT DO THEY THINK

I can only repeat, this site is beautiful.
I am sometimes too enthousiastic, but that's just me, I start to know a lot of nice people, and I never saw such a thing before. I also admit that CHORDIE keeps me in a matter of speaking "alive". I've had a lot of physical trouble, started to be insecure and questioning a lot of things. Here I find peace, a lot of like minded people.
Also, I surf a lot more to other sites; mainly guitar sites, and sometimes I can overact, but who don't. My purpose has always been, as was my job: helping people, trying to understand people. Although there are a lot of "similar" people, each of us is unique, old doll can write it so nice, about why blend in the crowd.

Re: THE CHORDIANS WHO ARE THEY, WHERE ARE THEY FROM WHAT DO THEY THINK

well i womt give my real name, but I'm from texas, i'm 16, big music fan of just about anything good, been playing a few years now. I'm not what you could call computer saavy, in fact when I got the internet at the beginning of the year I spent a lot of time trying to figure out what people do on it all day lol.... don't answer that because I think I figgered out the only thing they COULD be doing.
Anyway my point is that when I started looking for music I stumbled on this site via Google, and its really the only place I come regularly. I've found it extremely helpful (no more hand written sloppy papers with penciled in chords that I 'figured out' off a CD... or at least almost no more old habits die hard). I think its a really great example of good internet, and somewhere where you can come for help, advice, or even just to chat a little, without the nasty language and rude advertisements.
I've seen big improvements in my plying since I started using chordie, in fact i think its even becoming more obvious to other people too. Last night we had a singin' at our church and me and isaac and bro. david did a special with two guitars and a mandolin. An old friend of mine came up and said 'Wow you guys are awesome, I never realised.'
Don;t know about them but I think its cuz Ive gotten better, and that makes me happy smile

Re: THE CHORDIANS WHO ARE THEY, WHERE ARE THEY FROM WHAT DO THEY THINK

Hi Guys,
Agree with everything that has been written.  I am not a big fan of the internet but this site does it for me.  I love the songs that you guys write and the people here are neat.
I was born in 1958.  My mum was Scottish, my dad Samoan and we lived in both Samoa and New Zealand.
I train horses (trotters and pacers) and do security work at nights.
I was a soldier for many years and served in Asia, Africa, Middle East and a heap of other places that no one remembers smile
I have been playing the guitar on and off for a millon years and still muck it up. wink
I love music - any type.  One day I will post some of the songs I have written (Old Doll - it's not as easy as I thought!!!!  I am not great on the computer!!)
Hi to everyone in Chordie land.

Re: THE CHORDIANS WHO ARE THEY, WHERE ARE THEY FROM WHAT DO THEY THINK

Good Morning rebel,
I don't know if you perform in clubs, or if you play alone or with others. Playing alone is on one hand really good, but you play 2x better with another guitar player.
My sister has done the same. But our parents were more difficult on this, you needed to go to school from 12 ---> 17;18 years. So a ballerina has to start following school when 12 years old.
But she reached the "impossible", she was accepted to specialise, and getting this opportunity is like winning the lottery.
You know that you made my day. WHY??
BECAUSE YOU WRITE EXACTLY WHAT I NOTICED: "my play is in about 8 months so improved, as during the last 4 years. ALL CAUSED BY CHORDIE.
Topics: read and write, a lot of songs, and about topics: I never thought this was possible, but reading them, and using the information from others is really amazing, and so I progressed.
See blues scales. I am far from a Satriani or SRV, but I am convinced that I am on a point to start recording or even busking.

Re: THE CHORDIANS WHO ARE THEY, WHERE ARE THEY FROM WHAT DO THEY THINK

Hey,
I totally and utterly agree with all the fantastic things that have been said about the Chordie community. This is the only other place where I can ask for help with my guitar-ing (besides my brother, but he'll try and tie in a bunch of other junk that I don't understand) without looking stupid.
Anyway, I was born in 1995, soon starting highschool, have been playing alto saxophone for three years (I still don't know how to spell 'saxophone') and I have just started piano for about a month. I started playing guitar at the beginning of this year. I have improved (or so I have been told) a lot after I started using this site. Everyone's just so.... nice here!
Long live Chordie!

Re: THE CHORDIANS WHO ARE THEY, WHERE ARE THEY FROM WHAT DO THEY THINK

What can I add?

No other guitar site is so comprehensive. The main reason I stuck around was because the forum was/is always helpful. If I want to know something then someone has probably asked already. And if not then I can always count on getting answers from, what I have found to be, honest people.

I'm from Scotland; 40 years old; beautiful family; deliver mail for a living and just can't get enough of the guitar. LOVE IT!

Is anything really made up of zeros and ones??

Re: THE CHORDIANS WHO ARE THEY, WHERE ARE THEY FROM WHAT DO THEY THINK

This site has been one of the greatest tools for learning songs I've came in contact with. I've never been involved in forums on the computer of any kind, until Chordie. There are so many artists here who get what I get, are into what I'm into, and most importantly are ambitious and strongly desire to improve their skills as musicians. I've learned a great deal from Chordie and hopefully I've been helpful to others with some information I've given.

I'm a 41 year old husband and father of two who plays music professionally in the beautiful sunshine state of Florida. My ultimate goal is to be a studio musician who works from home and make enough money to have 10 more kids.(well maybe 5 to be realistic)My lovely wife's not in agreement with me on this one, yet. Nothing in life has given me happiness like  I've received from being a Dad. I've had my share of the spotlight and I think I'd be just as, if not happier helping others create and record their own music.(maybe my kids?!?!)

Although I've yet to pyhsically meet most of the people I've established contact with on Chordie, I consider many of you friends. I thank you Per for creating and operating this wonderful site. Chordie is cool!

Peace and Guitars,

Give everything but up.

Re: THE CHORDIANS WHO ARE THEY, WHERE ARE THEY FROM WHAT DO THEY THINK

doc,
Actually my brother and father each play instruments (papa can tear a piano up, and isaac can pretty much play anything he picks up), i also have three or four cousins and a friend here and there that play guitar. I play at church, both in the main worship service and in the youth band, and my family has regular get to togethers where there might be five or six guitars playing at once at all different skill levels everything from johnny cash to amazing grace lol
I also play alone constantly, well as constantly as I can around school and all that stuff.
I'm working on blues scales because I'm trying to learn to play my electric, and I feel like i'm making improvements, mostly because of the help and information I got from this site.

my name is Selso and i am 25. I dont go to other guitar sites because, well i dont no. i stumbled across chordie looking for guitar tabs, but found that the forums were really cool. i dont use the internet much, just for music. i really like this site, i cant stress that enough. i know this might sound a little weird but i feel like ive found a little family here. every time i post a song i get postive feed back. every time i read someone elses songs it inspires me to keep writing. chordie has become an everyday thing for me. like you guys said before, i think its the lack of ego that brings me back.

Re: THE CHORDIANS WHO ARE THEY, WHERE ARE THEY FROM WHAT DO THEY THINK

Just turned 42.  I'm a desk jockey, but also a would-be river bum.  Been playing guitar for about a year.  On my umpteenth try to learn.  In the past, I always used lesson books.  I'd try to learn to play the guitar.  Then I got the idea that instead of playing the guitar, that I'd try and learn to play songs.  Novel concept, huh.  What can I say, I'm a slow learner.  Anyway, I was chatting with one of my bosses, and he's learning too.  He told me about this site and all the chords, and the transposing feature.  So I tried it out.  I printed out a lot of songs.  Then I wanted to put together a Songbook, and learned that I had to register.  So I registered and as long as I was registered figured I'd pop on into the forums.

These forums were such a pleasant surprise.  You folks have been nothing but supportive and helpful, and I appreciate it.  And the Songwriting forum is nothing short of amazing and fun.

Re: THE CHORDIANS WHO ARE THEY, WHERE ARE THEY FROM WHAT DO THEY THINK

I was reading these replies thinking that Chordie should be recognised so  iwent looking. There is a place that does a competition for best web sites. I have no idea what category this site would come under though, I thought music then I thought no. Maybe hobby?
Too late for this year anyway as winners for 2007 have been picked. Maybe next year?

Re: THE CHORDIANS WHO ARE THEY, WHERE ARE THEY FROM WHAT DO THEY THINK

Hi
I found the website while looking for Chords Tabs and.......
Found much much more.
Chordie has became to me a great extention to my guitar playing hobby.
The forums are interesting and informative and well policed. Help is always forth coming given in a friendly manner. It's a credit to all who run it.

All I can say is well done

Re: THE CHORDIANS WHO ARE THEY, WHERE ARE THEY FROM WHAT DO THEY THINK

This topic is exactly why I love this site--look at all the ages, the cultures, all sitting around playing guitar...man that would be so cool if we had one huge jam!
Anyway, just turned 46, wanted to play guitar since I was a kid, but I never got one until my wife surprised me for my 40th birthday & I've picked it up every day since.  Self taught.  I'm a trainer in the Human Resources field, but dream of quitting and being in ministry with kids full time....what else...3 kids, two are out of the house so there's only one left to tell me to "turn that music down!".  My wife is very supportive, plays bass, and is learning to play a little guitar too.  She's a Youth Pastor at a church here outside of Cincinnati.
Have a good weekend all!

Re: THE CHORDIANS WHO ARE THEY, WHERE ARE THEY FROM WHAT DO THEY THINK

Hi. I'm from a lot of places, but currently residing in Quebec, Canada. I'm 27 years old.

I've been a music lover all my life, played the piano when i was younger, and always had a passion for the guitar but never the patience to stick with it so that I could learn properly.

Last year, I went through a huge personal issue (life-changing experience). I thought I was in Hell, and the only thing that helped me to ease my worries was listening to my favorite songs from artists like Dave Matthews, Bob Dylan, Pink Floyd, etc... After several years of setting aside my "musical creativity", I decided that maybe playing guitar was just what I needed to keep my mind intact. Also, I'm a relatively private person in the sense that I keep my problems to myself (not a great thing, I know) and don't like to share my troubles with others. So I thought it was a great way to express myself and what I had been through.

I found Chordie while I was surfing around for tabs and lead sheets for songs and, as Arkady puts it "I found so much more".
The songwriting forum is definitely my favorite place on this site. I haven't posted anything myself, but I always find myself inspired by the Chordian talents such as James McCormick (obviously), last_rebel, Jason Hague, Old Doll, Roger Guppy, Jets... just to name a few. I hope to post one of my own creations soon.

Suffice to say, that it is very rare to find such a diverse group of intelligent and friendly individuals (on the Internet especially), that respect and help each other to grow and improve in what they like to do best. We have people of all ages and from every corner of the world that contribute to this site immensely, not to mention a great team of Admin & Moderators who must work hard to keep these forums clean and enjoyable.

In any case, a big thanks to everyone involved in this site. It's helped me to improve a lot as a songwriter and as a guitarist.

J.

Re: THE CHORDIANS WHO ARE THEY, WHERE ARE THEY FROM WHAT DO THEY THINK

G'day from Australia fellow Chordies!  I'm born 1952 so that makes me old and full of wisdom????  Been playing guitar for the last 40 years and slowly getting better.  I've been looking at Chordie for the last five years only to get songs and it wasn't until this week that I noticed the forum tab (we do things real slow in Oz).  Anyway, I registered and am having great fun reading all the posts.  It's great to see the mix of contributors and thoughts.  Keep on rockin'.

Hi folks,  I'm The 10thGear, and have just registered here to become a chordionite?  I orginally came across this site from another site I have a member of for some time.  Quite suprisingly, I am impressed!  Hope to make some freinds here that enjoy playing as much as I do... so -

Re: THE CHORDIANS WHO ARE THEY, WHERE ARE THEY FROM WHAT DO THEY THINK

Well I'm Suze, I am English but live in the capital city a very low and swampy spot in North Europe where I commute 5 days a week to my stressy job, and relax by messing with guitar playing.

I focus mainly on acoustic but do have a few inexpensive electrics to hand, bought mostly on a whim because they look good (yes I am that shallow).  I am strictly an armchair player, and my cat is my worst critic - he hates slide guitar and the Cmaj7add9 chord in particular.

There is a five in my age - and its not at the end. However if I write it backwards I am a teenager!

I was and am knocked out by the transpose and songbook functions here. The technology is well thought out - my regards to the designers - do they ever post here? Come out of the shadows ...

I am usually suspicious of web forums but this place seems friendly and respectful due I think to the nice mix of ages and nationalities and a shared interest and humility. So I will chip in in my own way with questions and answers when I can, in my own mystical way.

Greetings to all of you...

I'm 20, old enough to do nothing but suffer a year. Go to college in Ohio, want to go to Optometry school afterwards. I've been playing about 6 months and can't get enough... although I don't have much time anymore and my playing is grinding to a halt... Pre-Prof Biology isn't a good major for free time.
