Some of the songs have lyrics only, but most have chords as well.
In addition, one of our members created this. You can enter chords that you know and it will bring up a list of songs which use those chords.

Listen to the radio. And wait for songs to come of which you can say: "I would like to play this song!" In the meantime learn some easy chords and songs like:

Here's my list of beginner songs, the ones I personally started with: http://www.chordie.com/songbook.php?sel … did=269030
"Leaving on a Jet Plane" was the very first song I learned. Just three chords, and for the most part you're just playing two back and forth and then throwing the E in there occasionally. I liked it, because it was simple enough to figure out and made me feel like I got somewhere soon enough.
FYI - best FREE place to learn online is www.justinguitar.com - no one here is affiliated, we just plain like his method. Start with the beginning, and go through the steps. You'll learn proper chord fingering, and how to practice. He's great!
WELCOME TO CHORDIE and enjoy the guitar!!!

Sorry I haven't responded. My brother in law took my guitar home to change the strings for me.His house burned last Saturday night. My guitar was in the house. Amazingly enough it was undamaged - only the case was destroyed. I am telling you since I have not been able to try any of your suggestions yet. Once our lives are back in order some I'll take your advise. Thanks again.

88 - (I'm nicknaming you above and beyond your username DaleJrNut... as happens often around here) - I am so sorry to hear about your Brother in law's home. Very sad. Since the guitar wasn't harmed, I hope that the damage to the house wasn't too terrible as well. This post will still be here when you're ready for it. Positive thoughts for your family!

How terrible! I hope no one was hurt. I think I speak for everyone that we will certainly accept that as a reasonable excuse for why you haven't tried our suggestions. Wow.
