Topic: Iconic Guitars

If you saw a photo of a particular guitar could you tell who owned it ? For me I think Paul McCartney's Hofner Bass guitar is a very Iconic guitar. It was deemed "The Beatle Bass".
Just wondering who you would pick ?

Re: Iconic Guitars

talking of Beatle guitars, i think John Lennon's black Rickenbacker does it for me.

Rickenbacker bass as played by Chris Squier of Yes.

John Lennon (again) his blond Gibson. almost bought one, didn't like the arm, too flat!

Status Quo and their Telecasters (partly the reason why I've got one)

Brian May's home made guitar, which is now available over the counter! not his actual one but copies...DUH

Mark Knopfler's guitar (don't know the maker but I think it's a luthier from New York?

Paul's Hofner bass, I almost bought one from the Beatles museum on Liverpool dock, lefty too!

Steve Howe and his pedal steel.

Ask not what Chordie can do for you, but what you can do for Chordie.

Lucille is many guitars.  Just as Air Force One is whatever aircraft the President is in, regardless of type and who is flying it, Lucille is whatever guitar BB King is playing.   It's been everything from a Telecaster to the current ES-335.

Which is kind of cool.

I think it's a little unclear about which of those two owns the other.

1) Gene Simmons had that nasty looking battle axe made for him by CORT:

2) I'll always think of Peter Frampton when I see a Les Paul Black Beauty (w/ 3 humbuckers):

3) Another Chris Squire rig is his 3-neck bass, which only a guy his size could lug around:

4) Steve Howe's Gibson ES-175 ... don't know anyone else using one of these for prog rock:

5) And last but certainly not least, Ian Anderson's custom-made parlour guitar by Andrew Manson Luthiers (Devon, England)

By the way, great idea for a thread Tyson .... brings back a lot of great memories!

Neil Young's got it and he still plays it.  Most of the Prairie Wind album was recorded using that guitar.

Re: Iconic Guitars

Yea, old Neil has me envious.
The D28 always reminds me of Hank, most of his album covers featured it.

Re: Iconic Guitars

Nobody mentioned any of Stevie Ray Vaughn`s strats or Muddy Waters beat up old telecaster? They are gone, but the guitars always stand out in my mind
