Topic: DRUG

Are there still a lot of musicians witch are on a kind of death list?
There are not many topics concerning this "sad" problem.

I have finally found happiness in my life.  Guitars, singing, beer and camping.  And they all intertwine wonderfully.

Re: DRUG

Re: DRUG

I know what he means. it`s a celebrity death watch, only with musicians. Waiting for musicians to die. Examples- Chuck Berry, Pete Seeger. Anyone who is old or in poor health. It is kind of morbid. My wife and I play celebrity death game. When a famous well known person dies, you have to be the first to tell the other.

Eh, not sure that's what docphil is referring to.  Maybe so, but what you describe is not NECESSARILY a link to the title of the thread, which is DRUG.  Ray Manzarek is the latest example (cancer).

Hopefully the good doctor will chime in and explain.

Re: DRUG

1) the 27 club
2) musicians taking "drugs"
3) influencing their music

IN FACT THIS TOPIC IS ABOUT IF A LOT OF MUSICIANS ARE STILL TAKING DRUGS, I hope this is more clear

Re: DRUG

Gidday,

Interesting subject musicians & drugs.
Recently i`ve read  Ronnie Wood & Paul Mccartney  Biography.
Both mention a lot about drug use,as with many other musicians.
any theories about this???

Yes.  I've heard both Don Henley and Noel Gallagher say that their best creativity comes from the "dark side".  For some people, I can believe it.  IMO, Oasis' best album is "(What's the Story) Morning Glory", but Noel says he doesn't remember writing most of it.

Anyway, to doc's original question, I sense (meaning I have no hard data to back it up) that drugs are not AS rampant in today's musicians as they used to be.  Maybe I'm wrong.  Maybe was more of the "expected" lifestyle in the '60s and '70s and could be just as rampant as ever today, just not as mainstream.

Re: DRUG

Hey Doc.  You've worked with some of the big bands and been back stage.  All we know is what we've read about, but you were present for some of those shenanigans.  I can't say as it's quite as rampant.  From what little I've seen of pro gigs, there's still a lot of booze, but according to my friend who sings lead and writes for a punk band and tours with some other punk bands they stay clean drug-wise.  (unless you want to quibble about booze being a drug)

Re: DRUG

I have no hard data either, but I read about 6 bios, all the guys from the great past.  I do not know how Ozzy, Steven Tyler, Joe Perry, Ace Frehley, Peter Chris, Slash, Nicki Sixx,  Tommy Lee, and all the others I can not remember are still on this earth!

I think lots of the present crop have learned a little from the past.  Yes, many still like to get their drink on and probably like to chill with some wild wood flower, but they have seen the Heroin travistys, though a few still seem to fall to that, and are doing all right getting off on the music and the attention.  Heck! just give me 30,000 people in front of me. NOW THATS A DRUG ALL BY ITS SELF! As Bobby Doll (Poisons bass player) Says "Playing in front of 30.000 fans.... Its better than sex."

I was backstage in a rokfestival (probably the biggest in Europe), and I saw 2 roadies "dragging" bob dylan who wasn't almost able to walk, but when on stage --- best Dylan I heard.
