Topic: The Most Important Piece of Equipment - Brilliant Demonstration

It's the room you're in.  smile

Check out the quite awesome video of a simple drum pattern played in a variety of different acoustic spaces.  These are recorded dry.  No 'verb, no EQ, no coloration at all.  Just the mic and the kit and the space.

So the next time you're wondering about what to use to record, spend some time thinking about *where* you record, too.  It will make more difference than anything else you can buy.

That was interesting the sound is effected by what it bounces off of or lack of even the surface the kit is set up on affects the sound I think the same holds true for amps smile

Ask not what Chordie can do for you, but what you can do for Chordie.

Very cool!

There's no doubt that the size & shape of a room, wall materials, and especially the ceiling height all affect the sound of any instrument or voice. My brother (a drummer) and I have thought about renting a local community hall, just to have a jam session in a bigger room.

Excellent post, Jerome ... very informative.
