Topic: Monday Morning's Classics

Beginning with today, I would like to feature something I would like to call "The Monday Morning Classics", intended to get y'all moving on your week. Let's say it's the most I could do. smile

Today, it's Rossini's FUNNY William Tell Overture by the Mnozil Brass. Enjoy, my friends and we send our love!

Re: Monday Morning's Classics

My first public performances were playing classical upright bass.  I love classical - especially with lots of bass like Rossini, Beethoven, and Holst.  Thanks for the tunes!!

Re: Monday Morning's Classics

Glad you do, Z! I hope you like this one by the Brass even though another bass instrument is used. These guys sell out everywhere they play! I am hoping to have some comical classics for you every Monday morning and I hope that will be okay with Roger and 'em. smile

Well it's a fun version, whether orchestral or brass choir.

Re: Monday Morning's Classics

That's great stuff, Bill ... my ears are still grinning!

I expect you'll be adding some P.D.Q. Bach to your entries over time? Badeye started this trend with his "Friday Blues Fix", I jumped on board with "Prog Rock Chill Out", and now we've got "Monday Morning Classics" to look forward to. I hope you start a new thread for this, and keep 'em coming!

Way to go, Bill ... you're a real asset to the Chordie family!

Re: Monday Morning's Classics

"maaaaaa", "cuck-ooo" "cick"!

First time I saw this, TF I almost wet my Depends from laughing so hard.

Yes, oh yes. PDQ ("Heilige Dankgesang") will sure be there as will Victor Borge and many others.

I also hope to include some notes about the REAL baroque, classical, romantic and modern composers as we go along. You may be surprised.

I thank you for your support, TF, my friend.

Re: Monday Morning's Classics

Can I suggest that I change the title of this topic to "Monday Morning's Classics" and move it to 'Bands and Artists' where the other music suggestions are?

Re: Monday Morning's Classics

Of course, Roger. You're the guy in charge and I apologize if I took too much onto my shoulders. smile

However it works best! smile

Re: Monday Morning's Classics

Bill, no need for apologies, it is only a suggestion. I just thought that as the 'Blues' and the 'Rock' links are there they would be better together and the title change lets everyone know what it is about.

It can stay here as it is, if you prefer, it is your topic.

Your decision, Sir!!

Thanks, Roger and I have decided to go with your suggestion. That way maybe I won't run out of composers! smile

Re: Monday Morning's Classics

Speaking of PDQ Bach, I watched his "1712 Overture" last evening on YouTube. There was a section where the percussionists were using those whistles that simulate birds singing. On the other side, two people came out, one with a duck call, and the other with something that sounded like a crow. I'm still grinning!

Re: Monday Morning's Classics

Doctor's appointments coming up so I am posting this one early in US Time Zones. I hope you enjoy this one. You should maybe turn it up?

Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grapelli

Bill

PS: Django lost one or two fingers in a fire (the accounts are vague). He also played with a paralyzed finger. Here's the Wiki scoop on him: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Django_Reinhardt

Re: Monday Morning's Classics

Highly entertaining stuff, Bill ... thank you. I'd never heard of Django Reinhardt, and sampled through this album with amazement. I especially enjoyed "You Rascal, You".

Re: Monday Morning's Classics

Hi folks. In a rush and sorry I missed yesterday's "Monday Morning's Classics". So here it it on a Tuesday. This guy's just like you all, talented as hell!  smile The guy is French and there's nothing further to be found by him. He did have a website (in French), but it is no more. Enjoy it anyway! smile

Re: Monday Morning's Classics

On another platform of the forums, some folks are talking about finger-picking, so here's the king of that style, Mr. Merle Travis! I hope you enjoy it : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=miQiaHYhb_o

Bill

Let it play all the way through for some finger-pickin' FUN! This clip bleeds into that one, and you shouldn't miss it.  See y'all when there's more time and please let me know how you like my Monday choice.

Re: Monday Morning's Classics

Good choice, Bill.

As we were discussing in that other thread, Merle still has a couple of fingers "anchored" on his picking hand. I find it more challenging when I can't anchor any fingers, 'cuz I lose track of where I am.
