Topic: CTS Potentiometers ("pots")

The pots in my Les Paul were starting to get scratchy, and one of the tone pots up 'n' died about a year ago. I was told by a local guitar tech to replace them all with CTS pots, and he gave me some reasons why they're superior to the stock stuff they put in Epiphone guitars.

Just got it back from him this morning, and they are indeed much quieter than the old ones. They're push-pulls on the volume ones (my pups are 4-wire for coil-splitting) and the CTS pots are much smoother for this, and don't make a loud "clack" when I pull or push them. My old pots also had a significant volume drop when I switched to single-coil, but these not nearly so much ... and both are supposedly 500k pots. Weird.

At first blush, the CTS pots do seem to be much better quality. big_smile

Re: CTS Potentiometers ("pots")

First thing I do whenever I buy a new guitar is replace stock pots with these.  Good move!

Re: CTS Potentiometers ("pots")

I replace pickups  but not post, I am thinking it may be time for some in my SG. and a new toggle.
