Topic: Seems Your Heart's Gone Cold

I had this song in my head early this morning - I have no Idea why.  It has nothing to do with my life.... I was just empathizing I think

Anyway  here it is...

Seems your hearts gone cold

[C]I think you and I both [Am]know
That our[F] love is passing [C] by
[C]I been trying to think of[Am] reasons,
and I'm [F] trying not to [G]cry
[C]Seems so long ago that [Am]you and I
Thought our [F]lives had turned to [C]gold
[C] now there' s too many  [Am] stormy  nights
where it [F]seems your [G]hearts gone [C]cold

[C]when I wake up now  each [Am]morning
and I  [F] feel the emptiness  in [C]side
[C] I can' t help but think [Am]to myself
That a [F] a part of me has [G]died
[C]I'm sitting here looking at [Am]photographs
Got me [F]wishing for those days of [C]old
[C] but  this can't be fixed by   [Am]memories
because  it [F]seems your [G]hearts gone [C]cold

Chorus

[F] you once  said that you'd love me[C]forever
now I'm [F] finding out ,  that really isn't   [C]true
and I [F] know that  I can't make you [C]love me
But  I [G] can't make myself [F]stop loving [C]you

[C]Now I've got sleepless nights and [Am]restless days
cause you're [F] still always on my [C]mind
[C]I never thought it would [Am]come to this
hard to [F] leave what we had [G]behind
[C] Now my friends  tell me to [Am]move along
Don't [F]  dwell  on a love that's  grown [C] old
[C] But they don't know you like  [Am] I did
before  your [F] loving  [G] heart  went  [C] cold

  Chorus
[F] you once  said that you'd love me[C]forever
now I'm [F] finding out ,  that really isn't   [C]true
and I [F] know that  I can't make you [C]love me
But  I [G] can't make myself [F]stop loving [C]you

I [G] can't make myself [F]stop loving [C]you
I [G] can't make myself [F]stop loving [C]you
I [G] can't make myself [F]stop loving [C]you

Re: Seems Your Heart's Gone Cold

hi jim. i like the words but when i played it i found the chords flowed better in a different configuration. if i have time (i'm babysitting as i'm officially on sick leave hmm)i'll record it quickly and send it to you.

C-G-Am-F| C-G-Am-F| C-D7-F | C-D7-F|| chorus is as you've done it. hope you don't mind the imposition?

Ask not what Chordie can do for you, but what you can do for Chordie.

Re: Seems Your Heart's Gone Cold

Great song. The lyrics paint a clear story of this relationship.  I like it when songs like these creep into your mind. You said it had no connection to what's happening in your life. That moves your songwriting into a new area. A place experience won't help and emotions need to show you the way. It shows you can put a meaningful song together without experiencing the situation. I'd say it's a step up as a songwriter. Keep writing great songs like this.  There is one down side to writing good songs : the next one always has to be better.

Re: Seems Your Heart's Gone Cold

Thank you Tyson

I'm really not a songwriter - just a guy that likes to wear emotions on the sleeve.   That's the great part that I cherish so much about Chordie - so many people that have a multitude of perspectives - it allows for honest and real feedback.

I am so honored when someone likes one of my attempts at a song.   I am surely just a novice, and I have learned first hand about the dire warning you give in your last line:
"There is one down side to writing good songs : the next one always has to be better."  It doesn't always happen that way for sure. smile

Thanks for your comments.

ps  HOW 'bout them PACKERS !!!

Hey how 'bout those Packers !
Keep on writing ,that's how we become better. It's hard to make the next one better. But it's a good challenge. I've written quite a few songs and I don't always get the next one better. It's fun when a new idea becomes a song. Keep up the good work. And I agree Chordie has some great members.

JIm .... a great song, I like the meaning and emotion in it.   You are definitely a song writer, a very talented one at that! smile

Re: Seems Your Heart's Gone Cold

I have been re- writing this thing over and over - trying to find the right chords and the right fit with the lyrics. I have modified both.
Phill did an excellent version of the original version.... however  - it was bothering me that something wasn't quite right.  as it turned out - i found that I needed lryic changes that were necessary - which then led me to replay this thing a hundred times or more - until I finally was happy with the chords.
That led me to re-thinking the title of the song -  Which I changed to just   " STONE COLD ".

I think I finally got there - at least it sounds right in my head. I have been finger picking the heck out of this on my Martin ( and occasionally on my Fender 12 string) both sounded great to me.

anyway - here is the new version

STONE COLD

[C]I think you and I both know
That our[Em] love is passing by
[Am]been trying to think of reasons,
and I'm [F] trying not to  [G]cry
[C]seems  long ago,  you and I
Thought our [Em]lives had turned to gold
[F]now all we have are stormy  nights
where  your [G]heart has turned stone [C]cold

Chorus

[F] you once  said that you'd love me for[C] ever
[F]  now I'm finding out ,  that isn't   [C]true
[F] I know I can't make you [C]love me
But  I [G] can't make myself [F]stop loving [C]you
no  I [G] can't make myself [F]stop loving [C]you

.

[C] now I wake up every  morning
and I  [Em] feel the emptiness  inside
[Am] the silence makes me feel like
a [F] part of me has  [G]died
[C]started  looking at  old photographs
[Em] got me  wishing for days of  old
[F] but love can't be saved by  sweet memories
Cause  your  [G]heart has turned stone [C]cold

.

Chorus

.
[F] you once  said that you'd love me for[C] ever
[F]  now I'm finding out ,  that isn't   [C]true
[F] I know I can't make you  [C]love me
But  I [G] can't make myself [F]stop loving [C]you
no  I [G] can't make myself [F]stop loving [C]you
I [G] can't make myself [F]stop loving [C]you

[C] Now I've got  long,  sleepless nights
Cause I  [Em] can't get you off  my  mind
[Am] never thought it'd  come to this
It's  so  [F]  hard to leave  love  be[G]hind
[C] my friends all tell me to move along
but i [Em] won't listen to what I'm told
[F']  I know what your love was like
before your [G] heart  turned stone[C] cold

.
  Chorus

.
[F] you once  said that you'd love me for[C] ever
[F]  now I'm finding out ,  that isn't   [C]true
[F] I know I can't make you [C]love me
But  I [G] can't make myself [F]stop loving [C]you
no  I [G] can't make myself [F]stop loving [C]you
I [G] can’t make myself [F]stop loving [C]you
