Topic: BOSS SY-300 Guitar Synth

Most of us who play electric like effects (whether we use them all or not) they're just plain cool. Here's a BOSS effects rig which offers true synthesizer sounds (hundreds & hundreds) for a regular electric guitar with standard pickups. Get a load of all the crazy stuff it'll do ... this is the next must-have toy that I absolutely don't need:

Tenement Funster so when will you buy one? Just curious.

Probably never will, CG ... they're $800 in Canada, and that's a lot o' dough to spend on something that's only a notch or two above being a novelty. It would be a riot to play with, and I'd really like to have one, but it's certainly not necessary.

Re: BOSS SY-300 Guitar Synth

The SY300 has piqued my interest for a long time - I bought one of the original G-707/GR700 systems in the 90's, and played around with it, but it was far too big and bulky to take to a gig on a regular basis:

http://www.joness.com/gr300/GR-700.htm

Then I invested in the 'new' GR-55 system about 2 years ago, it's a great, compact alternative:

http://www.joness.com/gr300/GR-55.htm

I also picked up a cheap GR-S:

http://www.joness.com/gr300/GR-S.htm

All to fit into the PRS I modified to be a 13 pin hexaphonic pickup guitar:

Having a synth that doesn't require the special pickup would be great, but I've already invested a bit in the 24 pin/13 pin systems ....

Re: BOSS SY-300 Guitar Synth

Neo ...

I just had look at the links you provided, and it was like an "evolutionary timeline" of guitar synthesizer" technology ... very interesting. You do indeed have a substantial investment in your current gear, and the photo log of your mods to the PRS are impressive. That original GR700 is quite the armload, isn't it?

It's good that companies like Roland/Boss, Electro-Harmonix, etc. are developing their new tech so that a standard 1/4" jack guitar can be used with it. So much simpler to use, and as you say, so much easier to lug around.

Good stuff!

Re: BOSS SY-300 Guitar Synth

I was going to convert this 24 pin controller to a 13 pin controller; it's not a hard mod to do, but I got bogged down in wanting to get a mural painted on the front - which ended up was going to cost more than the guitar, and the upgrade kit, and the GR55 put together:

Forgot I also added a GK-3B to my Hohner bass:

It was rather a tight fit:

Do you have or use any of the products you showed?  Which one?

I've got two of these controllers:

http://neophytte1.mine.nu:81/photo/2009-09-28-guitar_photo_session/images/guitar_photo_session-010.jpg

Bass with GK-3B attached (although here it's running into a wireless then into the Line6 into the amp):

And a pic of my mate's kid playing the PRS controller:

https://scontent-syd2-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/484713_10152913018820514_483191558_n.jpg?oh=a2cf28edd3425f2ace19470e6d96f4c6&oe=5AEECEDD

Same guitar, but running as a guitar, not synth controller, when I was testing out a KLd tube amp:

https://scontent-syd2-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/1379692_10153346280015514_1867665588_n.jpg?oh=888f0379e4c6a6a0454c56ad0a88d120&oe=5AB0DF17

Somewhere I have some *really* old photos of the GR system up on stage - on an old 110 film camera, but it was big and bulky and it only make it to a couple of gigs ... the controller is a nice guitar, but heavy and a bit awkward to play ... I'll see if I can find the pics at home ...

Cheers

Richard

You'll probably get a better response if you start a topic on the question ...

Re: BOSS SY-300 Guitar Synth

Also,@ 500£, that would be a bit pricy for me as well, TF. I have a "chorus" pedal which I used on the Taka/Jas and of course my "Big Muff" which I use on the LP Epi, but that's as far as I have gone with anything that is after market electronic.

Since we're on the subject of effects, is anyone using/or seen this little amp? https://www.tonewoodamp.com/?gclid=Cj0K … j1EALw_wcB

Looks like Facebook have been playing with their picture algorithm ... this is the first one:

I'll sort out the others later as we're just on our way out ...

I've never heard tell of the ToneWood, Bill. I watched the Mike Dawes video in the link you provided (thanks!) and am very impressed. The rate of change in digital technology is hard to keep up with, isn't it?
