Topic: BACK-UP SINGERS

Anybody know any other songs using famous back-up singers. It's interesting once you know who is singing and then picking them out in the background.
Your so Vain by Carly Simon...Back-up singer...Mick Jagger

Heart of Gold by Neil Young... Back-up singer...Linda Ronstadt

Re: BACK-UP SINGERS

Welcome 6thelements. I don't know much about backing vocalist.  I know that Glenn Cambell and Leon  Russell as part of the  Wreaking Crew played on many a hit track.
I think James Taylor might have done a bit of backing vocals for Carol King on some of her songs.

Re: BACK-UP SINGERS

Neil Sedaka was recording "Bad Blood", and Elton John (I should say "Sir") wandered into the studio and backed him up with a little piano as well as vocals.... just one of those impromptu things.  I do believe Neil mentioned it on an interview I heard years ago while promoting an album.

Glenn Campbell also toured with the Beach Boys for awhile..... I think it was when Brian was having his "troubles" and Glenn had done some studio work with them and  they needed some "stage support" while a man down. smile

James Taylor and Linda Ronstadt on Neil Young's Harvest Moon.

Re: BACK-UP SINGERS

Graham Nash and David Crosby sang backup on Mexico by James Taylor.

Sting sang backup on Money for Nothing.

Re: BACK-UP SINGERS

Just did more research:

-Joni Mitchell sang backup for JT on "You've Got a Friend"
-James Taylor sang backup for Steve Winwood on "Back In The High Life Again"
-The Everly Brothers sang backup on "Graceland"
-David Crosby sang backup on "Another Day In Paradise"

Rita Coolidge backed up Joe Cocker, and he had Steve Winwood and Jimmy Page in his band.

out of tune out of key and out of touch

Re: BACK-UP SINGERS

Emmylou Harris has backed up pretty much everybody who has ever performed or listened to an Americana song.

Emmylou Harris and Bonnie Raitt have backed up Little Feat.

I think one of the cooler performances I saw was when Vince Gill was playing one of the big shows (maybe Crossroads) and when he started one of his songs you could see someone kind of jumping and doing a little giddy dance backstage. She ran out to grab a mic on the chorus and it was Sheryl Crow. Vince looked honestly surprised that Sheryl Crow commandeered one of his mics, but apparently she really liked the song and decided to sing back up.

That was over One more Last Chance, I think. At crossroads.  Sick recording.

I had to go diving in Youtube-land to find it. So I guess we're both on at least the second item on the list.

Peter Gabriel has had numerous backup vocalists over his performing career, including Paula Cole:
