Re: what is a good brand of Fiddle strings?

I used Dominant(and least I think that's how you spell it) strings for a very long time, and then after my teacher moved and I got another she decided I should use D'Addario Zyex strings. I honestly can't tell much of a difference between the two, other than maybe the D'adario sounds a little brighter or happier. I believe Dominant is cheaper though, and I would probably go with those.

I'm a musician; I can Handel it!

Hi there ,
I used to use strickly perlons ( nylon core ) strings.
But over the years I've come to like the plain steel strings better . They're cheaper also , and not much difference in tone .
I think fiddle string preference is much like guitar string preference , it's
all subjective .
Most teachers or instructors in my experience
have an agenda for recomending supplies . I've
even heard of them insisting that you buy a certain brand
from a certain supplier and finding out that after buying the overpriced strings , the
teacher actually received a
commission ................
   I call this " kick back "......
