Finished Freak-Out

by Phill Williams. 7th August 2009

As I stand here with my long hair flowing
Scent of Patchouli fills my sense
All my friends acting doped and silly
They all take this and that and say "I have as well"

Truth be told, I've never wanted that feeling
Never taken what we say expands our minds
As the music plays ever louder, ever crazy
Wild eyes rolling, arms waving are we spent?

Now the band gets really crazy
Back projections, bubbles and foam
Smoke appears and screaming solo's
The drummer strips off all his clothes

Ah! they say if you recall the 60's
Could it be that you weren't there?
I was there, I saw the chaos
I made it through, but with shorter hair

We really thought we were bucking the system
Here's one in the eye for chinless man
He who rules and takes our wages
Thinks he can do, thinks we cant...

Oh! dear friends, children of the love-in
Lost forever, gone those days
While we wish for days and times more pleasant
As we rock in armchairs and curse the change

Looking at photo's long forgotten
Stashed in wardrobes, behind old clothes
That was me in beard and loon pants
Love beads, long hair and that kaftan...oh!

Ten years later married with children
How the ideals lost their goal
A job a wage and playing bingo
Sunday lunch time, cards and home

Will someone save me from this nightmare?
Ten more years and she has gone
All that's left is singles bars and strip-clubs
How did I let my-self get so low?

Born in the 50's, died in the 70's
Just a zombie from then till now
Women came and soon departed
Still don't know just what I want

And so I close this memoir of depression
Still smiling at those days of yore
Smashing drums while in a freak-out
But all that now is just a bore.

Ask not what Chordie can do for you, but what you can do for Chordie.
