With the edit feature turned off on chordie (I blame lawyers) I have gone to editing songs offline. There are many programs out there just google for them. I used to copy the ChordPro format from chordie and paste it into another program for better printing options. The ChordPro format came up when you hit the edit button on the song. Now I know that is gone and I'm not asking for it to come back.
What I was wondering was could there be a button on the song that shows the ChordPro format without the option to edit it? A "show ChordPro format" button if you will. That way it is a great start off point to copy and paste that format into an offline editor.
Now I know I could copy and paste right from the song but most songs have half of the work done already and it would make a great start off point for editing. Just like it was when we could edit online. It brings the same editing function back to the user (with a little help from another program) that was there before.
The downside of this idea is editing no longer helps us as a community. We would only be editing songs for ourselves. But with a little patience and support I believe we will eventually get the edit feature back and can then share our work.
I don't mean to stir up flames so no ranting here. This is just a workaround idea.

Luke - Have you tried the "chopro" button located beside the print button on song pages (right side, midway down)? Is that what you're looking for or is something else?
Offline
Yes! The "chopro" Button is exactly what I was talking about! How did I miss that!
If you get an offline editor, copy the chopro format after clicking that button you can paste it into an offline editor and get all of your editing capabilities back. I knew we could find a solution to this!
Just to make this easy for everyone try this software.
http://linkesoft.com/songbook/
You can still transpose, print and most importantly edit on this software.
BIG BIG UPS to the Moderators here! And of course to our benefactor who gave us this great site.
Happy playing!

You can download songsheet generator from tenbyten.com and it's free, though they nag about a donation of $18 (or whatever you choose)
It's not that intuitive, but with perseverence, you CAN figure it out.

There is also a programme called Songbook and its free too. Pop it into your browser and you will find it. What I do is to copy the Chordpro section into notebook ( accessories Windows) and then save . All you then have to do is to import it into Songbook. With songbook you can transpose with ease, easliy alter chords you are not happy with and the best bit, you can make up a play list. I now use a lap top instead of hard copies. The other bonus is, if you have a dongle and some mc decides he would like the band to play say Green Green Grass of Home and you don't have it in your repertoire, download it from Chordie ...then put it in your play list ....

I've been using Songbook by Linkesoft for several years and it is a great program. It has a Windows version and Windowes mobile version and they work great together, although they are not free, but well worth the money.

I also use Songbook. I used Songsheet Generator, but it was not so intuitive. I get the chordpro from Chordie, then in Songbook its as simple as File-Copy form Clipboard, and it's in songbook. Songbook has a display window for seeing it formatted in Songbook display, and an Edit window for editing the file. I tweak it if needed, and save. And if you don't like the key, you can transpose with a click, and when you find a new key you like you can "Save Tranposed" and save it in transposed version. And it prints very well, and give lots of font options and margin options (so I can print offset from the left so I can punch holes in the page, for example).
Songbook is free to try, and I used it off and on for quite a while like that. But when I finally decided it was the program to manage my library, I paid for it and got the registration.
As a worship musician, I have to come up with a fresh variety of music for our congregation. Songbook makes this easy and easy to keep up with. there's even a live performance feature where I get a full-screen display and it automatically scrolls so I don't have to take my hands off the guitar!
Highly recommended.

my public songbook disapeared.........how can that happen

Hey! what happened to the edit button! its coming back, right? The problem is that none of these songs are correctly formatted so it makes chordie, the moderators, the forum and the whole damn internet useless!
Bring it back for gods sake or Ill just have to sit by my computer with no life displaying a deep thinness of skin that could only be the result of having your lunch money stolen!

Just calm down, take a deep breath and you too shall get what you deserve. Maybe you can get your trusty old type writer out and do it.

Al - you have been such a valuable member to the chordie community, I'd really hate to see you go. But if you really feel so strongly about this issue, just say the word and I'll delete your account post-haste.
