I will redesign Chordie. I want more content on the front page, including description of the coolest features (transposing, individual songbooks, well formatted songs),
as well as direct links to the newest and most popular songs. This means I have to give it a totally new look. I have not decided on a new layout yet.
The reason I am writing about it here, is that I want to know what you like and hate about the present Chordie-design. I also accept any suggestions
on alternative designs/logos/colors. Please use

Came across a small pearl on the Internet.
Erich Rickheit have made a program he calls Chord Finder.
It displays different "voicing", or different ways of playing a chord. It is a ureley mathematical approach, but seems to work very well.
I have used it on my
Chord page. You can now click the individual chord to find alternative ways to play it.
However, there might even be other uses for this brilliant little program - like automatically converting the grids displayed on the song pages to another tuning, or to banjo or ukulele. Im going to play around with that.

A range of performance fixes. This should be noticable for everyone.
Things are just a lot faster. Browsing for songs have also been spiced up
- you will no longer be faced with meaningless lists of numbers. Browse
the songs and check it out. It is not perfect yet, and there are probably
some bugs here and there.

I have changed the songbook-feature. It now creates printable songbooks in html instead of in pdf. The real reason was that my
server could not handle the load of createing pdf-files. There was also some bugs in the pdf-engine that was hard to fix.However I like
the result. The new files seems to print fine. Please report any bugs that you find.

Major update!!! I am very proud to announce that there now is almost twice as many songs in the index. Chordie now has 124.530 songs indexed!! Yesterday it was 68.000.
Unfortunately such major upgrades always introduces a lots of bugs, so please test and give me
feedback.

I've noticed that about 10% of you is using
Firefox as you browser - Good choice. Even if Im trying to make this site accessible for users of all browsers, there are some cool features that unfortunately only is availiable in Firefox/Mozilla. One of these is alternate stylesheets on the songs, another is the Type-a-head-find that makes browsing the artist-list a lot easier.

Lots of small bugfixes. Mostly in formatting of the songs.

Major upgrade. Lots of changes to the layout. Totally rewrite of underlying html-code. Should display a lot better on hendheld devices.
Autentication/login is rewritten. Should be a lot more intuitive. Easier registration. Adding your own songs now actually works. Lots and lots of other changes. When I do all these changes, there are have to be bug. Please report any bug you see. Everything from missplellings to pages that does not load.

Feature added. You can now
add your own songs to the index (login). At the moment, all songs have to be in the chordpro-format. Here is an example of a
song in chordpro. Choride will automatically format these songs
for you, so they look like
this. Since Chordie works striclty as a search engine, you can not add songs from your local harddisk, without first making them availiable on the Internet.

I think I have started hundred mails with "Chordie is a search engine. It does not host any songs. Only the formatting is done by Chordie. There are several reasons (mostly legal) for designing Chordie this way.
This is not totally true any more: The recording artist Thom Meinert from St.Louis asked me to host a song he has written. You can view the song

Back from my hollidays. Fixed a few bugs. The most important one was a problem causing just part of the songbook not to display. This is fixed. Unfortunately you have to either clear your songbook, or delete the FIRST SONG that DOES NOT print (and add it again), if you are currently having problems with your songbook.
On the bottom of the front page there is a description of Chordie. English isn't my primary language, and I need help improving that text. It is supposed to be a short description of the site.

Chordie is updated!! This is a fundamental change to the engine, that actually have been planned for more than a year. The reason for the change is mainly so that my server can handle the load,
but there are some changes that you will notice more directly:
-
No more invalid urls! No more songs that are temporarily unavailable
- More songs. (And the database is much easier to update, meaning lots of more songs in the future)
- More songs formats correctly!
- Faster. Faster. Faster.
- Fixed a very irritating songbook-bug. Now all songsbooks should download!
- View the chords of the songs before clicking them.
There are some bugs in the songbook that will be fixed shortly. As with any major update there is bound to be new bugs. Please give
feedback and report bugs.

Ive been very busy lately, and even if I got lots of bug-reports, I just did not have time to fix them. Sorry. Thanks to everybody for submitting bugs and suggestions. The following bugs are now fixed:
- Some songs generated an mysql-error when adding them to songbook
- Chosen key was forgotten when adding to songbook. You can now transpose a song, and add it to the songbook.
- It was possible to generate large songbooks that made the site slow. Max is now 99 songs.
- Some songs crashed the songbook-pdf-generator.

If want to get in touch with everybody that have problems generating pdf-files in the songbook. There is a problem here, and Im not sure what it is. I need more examples to debug this. I need your username and password to look at your songbook.

There have been a problem with printing some somgs in Internet Explorer, especially for people using US Letter. This is now fixed. Thanks to Lloyd Chandler for a good bug report.

Lots of layout fixes. Implemented several new chopro-tags. Most songs will look a lot better. Lots of thanks to Mark. Check out his new online
ChordPro -> Html-tool. It uses Chordie as formatting engine.

Fixed several bugs in printing. Most songs should print a lot better - with two column chord grids. Ive also removed some of the links from the printouts. It is no point in having them there. Thanks again to Mark for reporting these bugs.

I have changed the layout of the songs! The idea is to get more compact songs. You will now also be able to transpose
songs without having to scroll down to the bottom of the page. At the same time I have also adjusted the font-size a bit (and made the songs valid xhtml/css2).
Another cool (and very well hidden) feature is alternate stylesheets. To view this, you have to have a browser that supports it. Internet Explorer does not at the moment
(I will design a workaround for IE users in a few days, so dont flame me for not supporting your browser).
If you want to view it now, I recommend
Firefox. If you have Firefox, you can click on the icon in the bottom left corner, and change the layout of all songs on the fly.
I usually get lots of comments when changing the layout, and this is a big change that is bound to cause problems on some systems. As always: all
feedback is appreciated.

You can now register directly for an account at Chordie. Here you can manage your own songbook, and download it in pdf-format.

The computer died.... I had to move Chordie to a completely new server on a new line.
A lot of work, but I guess it is worth it. The new server will be significantly faster.

Chordie has been down for two days. Sorry. I had to close it because it was consuming way too much cpu and bandwidth. I never expected it to be this popular. I had to rewrite a lot of code.
I think I have solved most of the problems, and that you all will notice speed improvements. Please let me know.

Chordie has support for unicode! This means that it can show songs in a variety of different languages. This means a total rewrite of a lot of code. Please report bugs if you find any.

Fixed a bug that has been causing a lot of problems. As of today, the search will
give more accurate results. Fixing this bug also opens up for several new features. Just a few days now, and you will all be surprised...:-)

In more than four months I have been working on a major upgrade. Today - the 8th of October 2003 - you can see the first results of these changes.
Most notable is the number of songs. There is now 70.195 songs indexed (up from about 40.000), making Chordie the largest index of songs on the Internet.
You will especially find more new/modern artists in the index, and you will notice that the index is updated more regularly.
Other important changes are:
A lot faster! Chordie is running on a brand new server.
Better formatting of the songs.
Lots of bad links are removed.
This upgrade has taken a lot of my time, and I havent been able to do anything else on Chordie for the last four months. Now that this is fixed, I will have time for other improvements. If you have any feature suggestions, please tell me.
