"Deep Purple" are an English hard rock band. Along with Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath, they are considered one of the earliest pioneers of the heavy metal genre although they have never considered themselves to be a Heavy metal band. The band got their name from a song composed by Peter De Rose. To date the band have sold over 100 million albums.
