"Greg Lake" (born November 10, 1947 in Poole, Dorset, England) is an English bassist, guitarist, vocalist, songwriter, and producer, most known as a founding member of King Crimson and of the supergroup Emerson, Lake & Palmer.

Greg Lake is a considered a major talent in both performance and songwriting in British Progressive Rock with a distinctive vocal timbre and guitar style. He was interested in music early on, and wrote what would become one of Emerson, Lake & Palmer's biggest hits, "Lucky Man", when he was still in grade school.


In 1969, Lake was originally in an band called ''The Gods'' along with several other members who would go on to form'' Uriah Heep'' but Lake quit the band before ''The Gods'' produced their first album in 1968. Lake went on to form ''King Crimson'' with an old school friend, ''Robert Fripp''. As both Fripp and Lake were primarily guitarists Lake obligingly took up the position of bass player.

For Crimson's debut album, ''In the Court of the Crimson King'', Lake contributed also as songwriter and singer. The album was originally to be produced by ''Tony Visconti'' who was then the producer for the ''Moo...
