"Mineral" was a prominent mid-90's indie band originally from Austin, Texas. Former members have since moved on to other musical projects including The Gloria Record and Pop Unknown.
Mineral's music is characterized by its iterated soft/loud structure, overlaid with melodic, off-key vocals and etheral guitar-based insturmental bridges. Many of their songs adhere to the formulaic and now ubiquitous structural conventions orginally perfected by ''de facto'' pioneers of the post-emo indie rock genre, Sunny Day Real Estate (SDRE). Despite their ostensive similarities to SDRE, it should be noted that Mineral emerged contemporaneously with the group and added their own less intense, more brooding flavor to the then emerging "midwest emo" sound. Mineral's unique understanding of the gentle balance between angst-ridden kinetics and wistful underpinnings in conjunction with their precociously intelligent lyrics have since gone on to influence a countless number of indie-rock imitators.
