The Riverdales are an American punk rock music group. The band was formed in 1994 when the band Screeching Weasel broke up for the second time, and members Ben Weasel (born Ben Foster), Danny Vapid (born Dan Shaefer) and Dan Panic (born Dan Sullivan) ended up without a band. They formed The Riverdales, with Ben on guitar, Vapid on bass, and Panic on drums. Their first album was released July 7 1995 on Lookout! Records and was produced by Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong and Mass Giorgini (from Squirtgun and Screeching Weasel). Panic later left the group and was replaced by Dan Lumley, another Screeching Weasel drummer.
Throughout their career, The Riverdales stuck with an old-school punk sound. The influence of Screeching Weasel sets the band apart from other Ramones soundalikes. Both Vapid and Weasel perform lead vocals.
The Riverdales supported Green Day on a European tour in 1995.
The band likely takes its name from the fictional town of Riverdale, the setting of Archie Comics and home of fictional band The Archies.
