Guitar Tabs, Chords and Lyrics

"Surface" was an R&B/pop music trio from New Jersey consisting of vocalist Bernard Jackson, guitarist/keyboardist David Townsend and bass and saxophone player Dave Conley. In the late 1980s to early 1990s the band achieved great success on American R&B radio, hitting number one four times on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks chart and the top ten on the Hot 100 twice. 1991's "The First Time" spent two weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot 100.

Townsend, son of producer/songwriter Ed Townsend (co-writer of Marvin Gaye's "Let's Get It On"), died on October 26 2005 of unknown causes at the age of 50.
