"Viking Skull" are a 5-piece Heavy Metal band from the UK.
Formed in 2002 as a semi-serious side project of leading UK heavy metal act Raging Speedhorn, Viking Skull has now turned into a project that rivals the original band in popularity.
The band originated as a spoof support act for Speedhorn around their home town of Corby, UK. The line-up originally included Speedhorn stalwarts Gordon Morison on drums and Darren Smith on guitar in combination with Speedhorn's guitar tech Roddy Stone on vocals and the merch man Waldie on bass.
Song titles like "Rape, Pillage and Burn", "Crazy Trucker" and "The Wizard's Sleeve" give a fair representation of what to expect from an average VS lyric. Musically they are a frank collection of retro-rock influences such as AC/DC and Black Sabbath.
Always better live than on disc, Roddy Stone's charismatic (and bloody funny) stage presence and the band's hard-drinking, hard-rocking attitude should not disguise that fact that although they look like a joke, Viking Skull are truly excellent musicians playing fantastic riffs.
An EP, "Chapter One", was released in 2003. The full length "Born In Hell" came out in October 2005.
