 Capo first fret.

 INTRO: |E |E |A |D |E |E |A |D

 [1ST VERSE]
 |E |E |A |D
... She says she hates to sleep alone, but she'll do it tonight.
 |E |E |A |D
... She wants to grab her telephone, but she knows it ain't right.
 |G |C
So if he won't call, she'll survive,
 |F |Am Am/G
And if he don't care, she'll get by.
 |D |G |C G |D
Climb into bed, bury her head, and cry - y - y.

 [2ND VERSE]

They were delirious with love; they were certain to win.
Now he's breaking plans more and more, and he's leaving notes on her door.
 Took a trip out of town, couldn't turn this one down;
He said, "I guess I should have told you before."

 CHORUS:
 |E |Am Am7/G |D
She says she feels like she's addicted to a real bad thing,
 |G |C
Always sitting, waiting, wondering if the phone will ring,
 |Am Am/G |D
She knows she bounces like a yo-yo when he pulls her string,
 |Em D
It hurts to feel like such a fool.
 |G E |Am Am7/G |D
She wants to tell him not to call or come around again,
 |G |C
He doesn't need her now at all the way that she needs him.
 |Am Am/G |D
She's on the edge about to fall from leaning out and in,
 |Em D |C |D
And she don't know which way to move.

 [3RD VERSE]
She wants to be fair; she couldn't say he was ever unkind,
But if she could bear to walk away, she thinks he wouldn't mind
'Cause he just keeps himself so apart and there's no one else in her heart,
So she's taking a dive from an emotional high and coming down hard.

[Repeat chorus, but drop the last two bars (the C and D chords). Then go
directly into this half chorus and outro]:

 |G E |Am Am7/G |D
She says she feels like she's addicted to a real bad thing,
 |G |C
Always sitting, waiting, wondering if the phone will ring,
 |Am Am/G |D
She knows she bounces like a yo-yo when he pulls her string,
 |Em D
It hurts to feel like such a fool. Woh-ooh-oh!
 |C D |Em D
And she don't know which way to move. Woh-ooh-oh!
 |C D |Em D |G...(stop)
It hurts to feel like such a fool.
 Am/G = 302210 Am7/G = 302010

I use my pinky finger to get the G bass note on the Am/G, but I use my ring
finger to get the same note on the Am7/G. The difference between the chords
is subtle, so you can use whichever is easier for you. I find the chord
progression and the movement of the bass line are much more striking if
you're finger picking or playing arpeggios rather than strumming the chords.

Another transcription of "Addicted" exists on the archives which is in a
different key and has one more verse, so I guess there are two (or more)
versions of the song. I've basically substituted my chords over the words
from the other transcription, and made any necessary changes to the lyrics.
The other transcription appears to have been taken from the alt.guitar.tab
newsgroup where it was posted by barrett@donner.cs.utk.edu (Richard F
Barrett). If you have any questions, comments, or corrections for my
transcription, please send an e-mail to: Darragh Egan <darragh@switchtech.net>
