Sally Simpson The Who
) SALLY SIMPSON
C --> G C --> G
[C]Outside the house Mr. [G-7]Simpson announced that [C]Sally couldn't go to the [G-7]meeting.
He [C]went on cleaning his [G-7]blue Rolls Royce, and [C]she ran inside a-[G-7]weeping.
She [C]got to her room and [G-7]tears splashed the picture [C]of her new me[G-7]ssiah.
She [C]picked up a book of her [G-7]father's life and [C]threw it on the [G-7]fire.
She [F]knew from the start, deep down in her heart.
She and Tommy were [G]worlds apart.
But her [F]mother said "Never [C]mind. Your part is to [D]be what you'll [G]be."
The theme of the sermon was "Come unto me and love will find a way."
So Sally decided to ignore her dad and sneak off anyway.
She spent all afternoon getting ready and decided she'd try to touch him.
Maybe he'd see that she was free and talk to her this Sunday.
She arrived at six and the place was swingin' to Gospel music by nine.
Group after group appeared on the stage and Sally just sat there cryin'.
She sttod there looking pretty as a picture right in the very front row.
Then a D.J wearin' a blazer with a badge ran on and said "Here we go!"
The [D-7]crowd went [G]crazy as T[D-7]ommy hit the [G]stage.
Little [D-7]Sally got lost as the [Em]police forced the [A]crowd back in a [D]rage.
Soon the atmosphere was cooler and Tommy gave a lesson.
Sally just had to let him know she loved him and leapt up on the rostrum.
She ran across the stage to the spotlit figure and brushed him on the face.
Tommy whirled round as a uniformed man threw her off the stage.
Her cheek hit a chair and blood trickled down, mingling with her tears.
Tommy carried on preaching and his voice filled Sally's ears.
She caught his eye. She had to try, but he couldn't see through the lights.
Her face was gashed and the ambulance man had to carry her out that night.
The [D-7]crowd went [G]crazy as [D-7]Tommy left the [G]stage.
Little [D-7]Sally was lost for the [Em]price of a touch and a [A]gash across her [D]face.
Sixteen stiches put her right and her dad said "Don't say I didn't warn you!"
Sally got married to a rock musician she met in California.
Tommy always talks about the day the disciples all went wild.
Sally still carries a scar on her cheek to remind her of his smile.
