Strange Brew  Cream

TITLE : STRANGE BREW
WRITTEN BY : Clapton/Collins/Pappalardi
PERFORMED BY : CREAM
ALBUM : DISRAELI GEARS album. Released in November 1967
GUITAR CHORDS : A7=xx2223, D7=xx0212, E7=022130, A11=[3]00000
INTERPRETED BY: Monsty :)
To my mind it's no point in having reams of TABs showing complex fretboard fingerings if
don't know and
understand the underlyling structure and chords of the song. Once you've got that, the
is easy (ha ha ..)
First of all, it's not "complicated". What makes it sound "complex" is the basic
structure
with the overlay of Bass and of course the Lead (Solo) guitar. You can, however, get a
rendition,
also using an acoustic guitar, with this simple and effective playing technique.
If you don't want to play the "fiddly bits" (riffs) ... just play the chords; it sounds
as good.
- Try it. Play along to the record. It works.
Some TABs show the song being played around the 4th/5th & 7th frets using D7#9, A7 and
etc.
This is not neccessary and the chord inversions at those positions don't produce the
sound - which is what you want isn't it ?-)
- If you like it so far, I can post the Solo guitar bits - they're also (made:-) simple !-)
[ ] = Optional - You can play them if you wish. You can also alternate during the song
- It makes it more interesting; play if you like, don't play if you're
:)
- The optional [~] vibrato, after the H2 Hammer-on, gives it extra
& feel.
( ) = not required - It's the top 3 strings (1st, 2nd & 3rd) that give the distinctive
sound.
- Immediately after stiking the strings - STOP (i.e. MUTE)
- Should be played with (a bit of) distortion + some nice reverb.
