How Great Thou Art Ascend the Hill
Although we have all heard this song many times, and many places, I would suggest
listening very closely to
the timing of the chords, and the vocal lines. You can listen to the whole song by
Ascend The Hill here,

Vocal Line: What Ascend The Hill essentially uses as the chorus, is not what we are use
to hearing. It just
only the first line, "Then sings my soul" repeated four times. Not to mention it is sang
differently both
times it's played.
Chord Progression: Although you could leave out all of the D's from the verses, I would
suggest not. Ascend
he Hill attempts to make this original by changing the timing between chords, as well as
the chords
themselves. The more you make it easier, the more you simply allow it to be more like
the original. The
trickiest part about this progression is the short D's. Let's look at the first line
with count-time:
O Lord my [1234]God! [1] [2]When [3]I [4]In [1]awe[2]some [3]Wo[4]nder[1] [2] [3] [4]
Now what I have done, is put the number that should be counted as it is sang. If you
were to listen to the
song and count, "1, 2, 3, 4, 1," etc..., starting with 1 over God, these numbers would
correspond with the
timing of the words being sang. The reason I point this out, is that in typically songs
in 4/4--like this
one--all of the chords are stared on 1 and played through 2, 3, and 4, until you switch
chords on 1 again. If
I was to put Chords above the numbers, it would look like this.
[Em] [D] [C] [D]
O Lord my [1234]God! [1] [2]When [3]I [4]In [1]awe[2]some [3]Wo[4]nder[1] [2] [3] [4]
Hope you feel enlightened :)

Intro: Em D C D
O Lord my G[Em]od! When [D]I in a[C]wesome wonder[D]
Consider [Em]all the works Thy [D]hands h[C]ave made,[D]
I see the st[Em]ars, I hear the [D]Rolling t[C]hunder,[D]
Thy power [Em]throughout the u[D]niverse di[C]splayed.[D]
Verse 2
When through the woods, the forest glades I wander
And hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees,
When I look down from lofty mountain grandeur
And hear the brook and feel the gentle breeze...
Then Sings my[Em] Soul[D] [C] [D]
And when I think that God, His Son not sparing,
Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in;
That on the cross, my burden gladly bearing,
He bled and died to take away my sin...
When Christ shall come with shout of acclamation
And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart!
Then I shall bow in humble adoration
And there proclaim, my God how great Thou art!
Then Sings my[Em] Soul[D] [C] [D]
[Em] How Great T[D]hou [C]love for us[D]
[Em] You shed y[D]our b[C]lood for us[D]
[Em] How great [D]thou g[C]race for us[D]
[Em] You gave it [D]all [C]for us[D]
Then sings my so[Em]ul, my Savio[C]r God to T[G]hee;
How great Thou art[D]! How great Thou [Em]art!
Then sings my s[Em]oul, my Savio[C]r God to Thee[G];
How great Thou ar[D]t! How great Thou a[Em]rt!
