Buddy Holly
Rock Around With Ollie Vee (1957)
(Sonny Curtis)
Now bonus track on CD: "Buddy Holly" (originally released in 1958)
A real gem! The lead guitar is arguably played by Sonny Curtis
(http://notfadeaway.dk/buddyholly/that.pdf) with Holly being listed as
second guitarist but, I must admit, I don't hear another guitar anywhere.
It's not easy to pin down what is played (and sung!), either. Use this tab
as a basic suggestion, add variations and adapt it to your own Rockabilly
style. Have fun!
In the second bar of the opening lick, the "c" (INTRO 1 and 2: B-String,
13th fret / SOLO: A-string, 3rd fret) has to be bent just a little, making
it higher than "c" without really reaching the "c#", though.
In the second half of the parts I mostly hear single notes. Some of the high
notes are struck very hard creating a slapping effect. I usually play
a picking pattern there. I put these notes in brackets because they are not
really there but are still close to the feel of the original. When playing a
pattern it must be percussive with the 2 and the 4 dampened hard to get the
beat going without actually producing a tone.
