History Book  Dry the River

I'm not good at fingering. So I wanted a chord version.
This is combination of joecoonz & GreenGoodbyes TABs
for acoustic album tuning
Capo on 2
for LP version
Capo on 3
take note:
G (high) = take your C chord and slide up 7 frets.
(fill) = those are the bass notes.
I just take my C chord and slide up to D & back to C & walk down to G.
Verse 1:
C G (high)
Like faithful oxen through the chalk,
With [G]dragging tails of[Em] history walk.
C G (high) G C sus2 G
Soon confuse the compass and the cross. (fill)
C G (high) G Em C C-D-C-B-G D
Carefully and cursively we fill our traveling diaries with loss.
Verse 2:
C G (high)
Beneath an angry Bible flood,
Did [G]you and I first [Em]learn to love.
C G (high) G C sus2 G
In my father's car we came to know. (fill)
C G (high) G Em C C-D-C-B-G D
And shivered in our painted clothes and paired like every animal below.
Chorus:
As heavy as a [Em]history book can be,
I will ca[G]rry it with me, oh[C] Lord.[G] [D]
And maybe when the [Em]bitterness has gone,
There'll be sw[G]eetness on our tongues onc[C]e more.[G] [D]
Verse 3:
C G (high)
Barefoot in a rowing boat
You [G]loose your shoes and[Em] freeze your toes
C G (high) G C sus2 G
And say I wear my sorrow like a crown (fill)
C G (high) G Em C C-D-C-B-G D
And throw your arms around my head, and see it there in gold and red and brown
Chorus:
As heavy as a [Em]history book can be,
I will ca[G]rry it with me, oh[C] Lord.[G] [D]
And maybe when the [Em]bitterness has gone,
There'll be sw[G]eetness on our tongues onc[C]e more.[G] [D]
Bridge:
We'll [F]soon forget our parents' n[C]ames,[G]
Lik[F]e dogs will drive the wolves [C]away.[G]
And [F]weep with fingertips [C]opposed,
Like a c[G]hurch where nobody [F]congregates.[G] [F]
Last Part Outro:
[Am] But [C]sweetness [G]sings in the [F]pasture,
[Am] We t[C]hrow ours[G]elves on the [F]mercy of the earth.
[Am] If s[C]and and s[G]alt have the [F]answer,
[Am] Then the [C]act it[G]self will be [F]louder than the [Am]word.
And I'll be on your side..
And I'll be on your side..
Etc. - Am C G F hold F then end on C
