Able Baker  Harvey Andrews

Capo:III
This was recorded by Harvey Andrews on his 1980 vinyl album Margarita (Beeswing
Records). There is a YouTube video of him singing this song at Acoustic Routes Cambridge
in 2007
(search for 'Harvey Andrews Acoustic Routes' as the song title is not in the video
title). He plays it with the capo at fret 3 and uses the chords of the key of G but in the
video recording his tuning seems to be about a quarter tone down. Watch out for the
slight change of pattern in the second lines of verses 6 and 7.
Intro: play the chords of the first verse
There [G]hasn't been much to [D]do for a long time
[C]Someone [G]won the [D]war they [G]say
But he [C]won't give thanks to [G]you for [Em]thinking
[A7] We're far better [D]off that way
For he [G]wore the wings and the [D]runway waited
[C]Spitfire [G]flies like a [D]bird of [G]prey
[C]Heinkels come ag[G]ain for [Em]hunting
[A7] As they did that [D]far off May
And he [G]rummages through all the [D]books in view
The [C]belts, the [G]badges, after [D]something [G]new
He [C]reads the novels to re[G]mind him [Em]when
[A7] He fought beside the [D]best of men
[G]Ghosts and shades that [D]haunt the memory
[C]Words he [G]hears but [D]can't rec[G]all
A [C]place that brings a [G]face be[Em]fore him
[A7] Names upon a [D]billet wall
[G]One more year and the [D]boys reunion
[C]Finds a[G]nother [D]face not [G]there
[C] Still he wears the [G]faded [Em]ribbon
[A7] Of the Cross and the [D]Croix de Guerre
And he [G]flies again with the [D]boys in blue
The [G]Few remaining of the [C]very [G]few
He [C]tells the tales that he's [G]told be[Em]fore
And he[A7] feels again the es[D]prit de corps
With hi[G]s victory roll and a [D]mounting toll
He's a [G]fighter pilot with an [C]aces [G]soul
He [C]drinks with boys who will [G]soon be [Em]men
And he [A7]wakes at dawn, he [D]flies again
And he f[G]lies....[C]..... ag[G]ain[D]
Able [G]Baker, Charlie [D]Two and Angels [G]Ten[D],[G]
And the f[G]ields of England [D]pass beneath the [G]men
Who fly ag[D]ain, who fly ag[G]ain
Who fly ag[D]ain, who fly ag[G]ain
Who fly ag[D]ain, who fly ag[G]ain[D] [G]
