The Graveyard Near the House  The Airborne Toxic Event

[D#] [A#] [D#] [Cm]
The other d[D#]ay, when we were walking by the grave[A#]yard near the house, you
asked me i[D#]f I thought we would ever di[Cm]e. And if li[D#]fe and love both fade so
pred[A#]ictably, we've made ourselves a ki[D#]nd of predictable lif[Cm]e.
And so I pic[D#]tured us like corpses, lying si[A#]de by side in pieces, in some dar[D#]k
and lonely blood under a b[Cm]ow. We looked so si[D#]lly there, all decomposed, half
tur[A#]ned to dust, in tattered clothes, but we prob[Cm]ably look just as silly now.
Bye bye bye b[D#]ye, bye bye to all this dog[A#]ged innocence. I cant prete[D#]nd that I
can tell you what is go[A#]ing to happen next, or how to b[Cm]e. But you have [D#]no [A#/D]idea a[Cm]bout[A#] me[G#], do yo[D#]u?
And it le[D#]ft me to wonder if people will ev[A#]er know each other by just
stum[D#]bling around like strangers in the da[Cm]rk. 'Cause somet[D#]imes you seem so
strange to me, I m[A#]ust seem strange to you. We're like two act[D#]ors playing our
pa[Cm]rts. Did you mem[D#]orize your lines? 'Cause I did. Here's the par[A#]t where I get
so mad, I t[D#]ell you I cant forget the pa[Cm]st. You get so qui[D#]et now, and you
seem, somehow, like a lo[A#]st and lonely child. And you just ho[D#]pe that the
moment wont l[Cm]ast.
Bye bye bye b[D#]ye, bye bye to all this dog[A#]ged innocence. I cant prete[D#]nd that I
can tell you what is go[A#]ing to happen next, or how to b[Cm]e.
[A#]But[G#] you have no[D#] id[A#/D]ea ab[Cm]out[A#] me[G#], you have[D#] no [D#]ide[A#/D]a abo[Cm]ut me, do you?
So there's al[D#]ways a way aro[Cm]und. There's some[D#]thing tying our feet to the
gr[Cm]ound. A moment pa[A#]ssed, we hate how it sou[Cm]nds.
And it s[D#]eems a [A#/D]little l[Cm]ess [A#]profo[G#]und. Like we're a[D#]ll [A#/D]going the [Cm]same w[A#]ay d[G#]own.
Yeah we're a[D#]ll g[A#/D]oing the [Cm]same w[A#]ay do[G#]wn. I'm just try[D#]ing[A#/D] to w[Cm]rite it [A#]all d[G#]own.
'Cause I write so[D#]ngs, and you write lett[A#]ers. We are tie[Cm]d like two, in
te[A#]thers. And we ta[D#]lk and read, and laug[A#]h and sleep, at nigh[Cm]t in bed,
tog[A#]ether. And you wa[D#]ke in tears sometim[A#]es, I can see [Cm]the thoughts flash
across your e[A#]yes. They say "Darl[D#]ing, will you be ki[A#]nd? Will you be a good
[Cm]man, and stay be[A#]hind if I get ol[Cm]d?"
And then the let[D#]ters all pass thr[A#]ough my head, with the wor[D#]ds that I[A#/D] was
t[Cm]old. About the fa[D#]ding flesh of lif[A#]e and love, the fa[D#]ilures o[A#/D]f the b[Cm]old. I
can li[D#]st each crippling fe[A#]ar like I'm read[D#]ing fr[A#/D]om a w[Cm]ill.
And I'll d[D#]efy [A#/D]every[Cm]one and l[A#]ove you st[G#]ill. I will car[D#]ry [A#/D]you with [Cm]me up e[A#]very
h[G#]ill. If you d[Cm]ie before I d[A#/D]ie, I'll carve your n[D#]ame out [A#/D]of the s[Cm]ky. I'll f[Cm]all
asleep with your m[A#/D]emory and dr[D#]eam of w[A#/D]here you l[Cm]ie.
It maybe bet[D#]ter to move [A#]on, and to let l[Cm]ife just carry [A#]on. And I may be
w[Cm]rong. But still, I'll t[D#]ry.
'Cause it's be[Cm]tter to l[A#/D]ove whether you wi[D#]n or [A#/D]lose or [Cm]die. Yeah, It's be[Cm]tter
to l[A#/D]ove whether you w[D#]in or [A#/D]lose or [Cm]die. It's b[Cm]etter to [A#/D]love, and I will l[D#]ove
you '[A#/D]til I di[Cm]e.
End on D#
