Fermi Paradox  Hank Green

[D] In 1950 in [C]Los Alamos a [D]scientist was talking with hi[C]s friends,
[D]And the conversation had them all [C]fully engrossed about this[D] universe that
[C]almost has no [G]end.
[C]And as they were all about to return to their study
[G]Enrico suddenly shouted, "Where is everybody?!"
[D]And he sat down and did a few simple calculations
[D]that indicated we should have been visited thousands of times
[D]at least based on his estimations
[G]And that's the Fermi [C]Paradox
[G]If they're out there [C]why don't we hear 'em talk
[D]the galaxy just keeps on [C]spinnin'
[D]with four hundred [G]billion stars in it
[F]and I just can't believe
[C]that we could be unique
[F]when there's so much space [C]in this galaxy
[D]Oh I want [C]Pandora's [G]Box
[D]to be open but instead we're stuck in [C]Fermi's [G]Paradox
[D]There are dozens of ways this [C]paradox might be resolved
[D]And you probably [C]can think of some [D]yourself
[D]Maybe advanced technology [C]rarely evolves
[D]Or maybe God [C]sent them all [G]to Hell
[C]Or maybe that technology leads to its own destruction
[G]Or maybe species lose interest in reproduction
[D]Or maybe they're just afraid of what we'll do when we find out
[D]so they're hiding until we grow a bit
[D]And don't have the same tendency to frequently freak out!
[G]Oh that's the Fermi [C]Paradox
[G]If they're out there [C]why don't they talk
[D]the galaxy just keeps on [C]spinnin'
[D]with four hundred [G]billion stars in it
[F]and I just can't believe
[C]that we could be unique
[F]when there's so much space [G]in this galaxy
[D]Oh I want [C]Pandora's [G]Box
[D]to be open but instead we're stuck in [C]Fermi's [G]Paradox
[D]Oh the question of whether [C]there is more life out there
[D]As far as [C]I'm concerned [G]is moot.
[D]But it appears that the aliens [C]do not use Foursquare
[D]and no I'm not [C]trying [G]to be cute
[C]Because the way that we listen is defined by our ears
[G]and the time that we've been listening, just a couple dozen years
[D]We'll be lucky if we see them if we notice them at all
[D]Our cosmic phone could be ringing off the hook right now
[D]And we're just not answering the call.
[G]Oh that's the Fermi [C]Paradox
[G]If they're out there [C]why don't they talk
[D]the galaxy just keeps on [C]spinnin'
[D]with four hundred [G]billion stars in it
[F]and I just can't believe
[C]that we could be unique
[F]when there's so much space [C]in this galaxy
[D]Oh I want [C]Pandora's [G]Box
[D]to be open but instead we're stuck in [C]Fermi's [G]Paradox
[D]Oh yeah, we're stuck in [C]Fermi's [G]Paradox
[D]Oh no! we're [C]stuck in Fermi's [G]Paradox
[D]Oh yeah, we're stuck in [C]Fermi's [G]Paradox
