Step Vampire Weekend
This is a great song and the tabs already on here are fine but I just wanted to
share how I play this as it's a little different and sounds a little closer to the
record for me.
I play it with a capo on the 3rd fret. The instructions are for the subsequent
chord shapes with the actual chords being played in brackets. Enjoy!
[Drum on body of guitar]
Every time I see you in the world, you always step to my girl
G(Bb) G/F#([cb]Bb/A[/cb]) Em(Gm) D(F) C(Eb) G(Bb) C(Eb) D(F) x2
[Verse 1]
G(Bb) G/F#([cb]Bb/A[/cb])
Back back way back I used to front like Angkor Wat
[Em(Gm)]Mechanicsburg Anchorage and [D(F)]Dar es Salaam
While [C(Eb)]home in New York was [G(Bb)]champagne and disco
[C(Eb)]tapes from L.A. [D(F)]slash San Francisco
G(Bb) G/F#([cb]Bb/A[/cb])
But actually Oakland and not Alameda
Your [Em(Gm)]girl was in Berkeley with her [D(F)]Communist reader
[C(Eb)]Mine was entombed within [G(Bb)]boombox and walkman
[C(Eb)]I was a hoarder but [D(F)]girl that was back then
G(Bb) G/F#([cb]Bb/A[/cb]) Em(Gm)
Badoom Badoom Boom
[Cborus]
G(Bb) G/F#([cb]Bb/A[/cb]) Em(Gm)
The gloves are off, the wisdom teeth are out
What you [D(F)]on about?
I [C(Eb)]feel it in my [G(Bb)]bones, I [C(Eb)]feel it in my [D(F)]bones
G(Bb) G/F#([cb]Bb/A[/cb]) Em(Gm)
I'm stronger now, I'm ready for the house
Such a [D(F)]modest mouse,
I [C(Eb)]can't do it a[G(Bb)]lone, I [C(Eb)]can't do it a[D(F)]lone
G(Bb) G/F#([cb]Bb/A[/cb]) Em(Gm) D(F)
Every time I see you in the world, you always step to my girl
[C(Eb)] [G(Bb)] [C(Eb)] [D(F)]
[Verse 2]
Ancestors told me that their girl was better
She's richer than Croesus, she's tougher than leather
I just ignore all the tales of a past life
Stale conversation deserves but a bread knife
And punks who would laugh when they saw us together
Well, they didn't know how to dress for the weather
I can still see them there huddled on Astor
Snow falling slow to the sound of the master
[Cborus]
The gloves are off, the wisdom teeth are out
What you on about?
I feel it in my bones, I feel it in my bones
I'm stronger now, I'm ready for the house
Such a modest mouse, I can't do it alone, I can't do it alone
Every time I see you in the world, you always step to my girl
[Bridge] (Same chord progression as Verse and Chorus)
Wisdom's a gift, but you'd trade it for youth
Age is an honor - it's still not the truth
We saw the stars when they hid from the world
You cursed the sun when it stepped to your girl
Maybe she's gone and I can't resurrect her
The truth is she doesn't need me to protect her
We know the true death, the true way of all flesh
Everyone's dying, but girl - you're not old yet
