War Of 1812 Arrogant Worms
Our teacher taught us this for history class...little did she know, she'd never hear
the end of it! I've heard it covered many other times by different bands, but it's most
famous version is by The Arrogant Worms. Although I think if you look closer, it was
actually written by a band called "Three Dead Trolls in a Baggie." (I just can't keep
track of all
these CBC Radio comedy troupes...)
So here it is. A really simple and fun song (that's not meant to offend anybody) in standard tuning. Enjoy!
Chords: D x00232, A x02220, G 320033
Intro:
Oh, [D]come back, proud Canadians
To [A]before you had TV,
No [G]hockey night in Canada,
There [D]was no [A]CBC (Oh, my God!).
In [D]1812, Madison was mad,
He was the [A]president, you know
Well, he [G]thought he'd tell the British [D]where they ought to [A]go
He [D]thought he'd invade Canada,
He [A]thought that he was tough
Ins[G]tead we went to Washington....
And [D]burned down [A]all his [D]stuff!
Chorus:
And the White House [G]burned, burned, burned,
And [D]we're the one's that [A]did it!
It [G]burned, burned, burned,
While the [D]president ran and [A]cried.
It [G]burned, burned, burned,
And [D]things were very [A]historical.
An[A]d the Americans ran and cried like a bunch of little babies
Waa waa waah!
In the [G]War of [A]181[D]2!
Verse:
[D]Now some hillbillies from Kentucky,
[A]Dressed in green and red,
[G]Left home to fight in Canada,
[D]But they returned home [A]dead
[D]It's the only war the Yankees lost, [A]except for Vietnam
And [G]also the Alamo... [D]and the Bay of... [A]ham.
[D]The loser was America,
[A]The winner was ourselves,
[G]So join right in and gloat about the [D]War of [A]181[D]2
Repeat Chorus
Bridge:
In [D]1812, we were [A]just sittin' around,
Mindin' our own business, puttin' [D]crops into the ground.
We heard the soldiers coming and we [A]didn't like that sound.
So we took a boat to Washington and [D]burned it to the ground.
Oh... we... [D]fired our guns, but the Yankees kept-a coming[A],
[D]There wasn't quite as many as there was a while ago[A].
[D]We fired once more and the Yankees started runnin[A]g,
[D]Down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico, oh, oh....
They [A]ran through the snow and they [D]ran through the forest,
They [A]ran through the bushes where the [D]beavers wouldn't go.
They [A]ran so fast, they [D]forgot to take their culture,
[A]Back to America, and [D]Gulf and Texaco...oh...oh...oh...
So, [D]if you go to Washington, its [A]buildings clean and nice,
[G]Bring a pack of matches, and we'll [D]burn the [A]White House [D]twice!
Repeat Chorus
