Ziggy Stardust by David Bowie. Transcribed by Johnny Birchett

I just found this site a few days ago and boy was I happy. I got Richard Ashley's
version of Ziggy even tho I knew how to play it already, but I couldn't decipher
the words. I will maybe put Stone Love or Rock -n- Roll Suicide up here later.
Definitely, I will put some Lemonheads on.

Just some disclaimers. There is a lot more going on here that I don't have time
to transcribe, but this will give you the basics, as correct as I know them, any

Well, this is the way i play Ziggy Stardust.
The intro is played with first position chords and MONDO distortion.

*NOTE: Let everything ring out forever to get a REAL grungy sound.

Verses: (These lyrics are from Richard's post. I wouldn't swear to Bowie or Stipe lyrics)

G Bm C C/G-C D
Ziggy played guitar, jamming good with Wierd and Gilly, and the Spiders from Mars.
                    G Em Am C
He played it left hand, but made it too far, became the special man, then we were Ziggy's fans.

G Bm C C/G - C D
Ziggy really sang, with screwed up eyes and screwed down hairdo, like some cat from Japan.

                           G Em Am C
He could lick 'em by smiling, he could leave 'em to hang; he came on so loaded, man. Well-hung and snow-white tan.

Chorus (power chords, 6th string):

    A G F G
             So where were the Spiders?
    A G F G
While the fly tried to break our bones.
    A G F G
Just the beer light to guide us. So we
    D E
bitched about his fans and should we crush his sweet hands...
(Here's a tab-like view of the power chord chorus)
(D)|7-7-7-7-7-----5-5-5-5-5------3-3-3-3-3-3-3-5 (Don't bother counting)
(A)|7-7-7-7-7-----5-5-5-5-5------3-3-3-3-3-3-3-5 (the dashes, I am not )
(E)|5-5-5-5-5-----3-3-3-3-3------1-0-1-0-1-0-1-3 (even pretending to )
(After third time, go to---) (indicate timing. :) )

The rest of the song pretty much repeats. The end is a Cadd9 (Ziggy played...)
to a G (gui-tar....).
One of the fun things to do with this song is play around with harmonics. Hard
to go wrong. :)
Hope this helped some. I will probably post some more now that I have found
this place.
