Now the chords. There are two guitars. One plays these chords in
open position, and the shapes are as such:
  [Am]    [Am7sus4]         [Fmaj7]        [G]      [C]
E-0-----3--------0-----3-----0--
B-1-----3--------1-----3-----1--
G-2-----2--------2-----0-----0--
D-2-----2--------3-----0-----2--
A-0-----0--------------2-----3--
E----------------------3--------

The other guitar is capoed up on the 5th fret, and the chord forms
are these:
  [Am]    [Am7sus4]         [Fmaj7]        [G]      [C]
E-5-----5--------5-----5-----8--
B-5-----8--------5-----8-----8--
G-5-----7--------5-----7-----5--
D-7-----5--------7-----5-----5--
A-7-----7--------8-----------7--
E-5-----5--------------------8--

If you plan on playing this with only one guitar, I strongly
recommend using the second set of chords, as the high capoed notes
ring out very nicely and sound more like the whole song in general.

I saw a version online that sounds all right, too. Capo on 5th fret and play Em, Em7, Cmaj7, D for the verses, D and Cmaj7 for the Chorus, and the solo part with the bagpipes, play G5, D, Em (G5 is 300003--like a regular G, without the finger on the second fret). Try it out and let me know what you think.

The arrangement shown is a bit off from the original, which goes more like this:
Verse 1
Verse 2
1/2 Chorus (does not repeat this first time)
Verse 3
Chorus (full > it repeats this time)
Instrumental break > C G Am Am (repeat x4)
Verse 3 again
Chorus (full)
Instrumental > C G Am Am (repeat x4) do what you like here, they do.
Fade out

The first instrumental part uses a bagpipe or similar reed sound on the original. I just whistle here if I do it acoustic or if nobody takes a lead on this part.
The second instrumental is pretty much up to you. On the original, they play out pretty long. I've heard it done with and without the chorus too. I think they do what they feel like here and you can too. It's such a cool song, you can have a whole lot of fun with it.
But for simplicity, the version shown is also cool. The instrumental parts are not essential, but it's easy to play and sounds cool; so it's worth a try anyway. Do waht you like.

Right and the Am and Am is played on the fifth fret (In the modified F shape) So it is really easy to play live. For verses, s tart on the fifth fret down to fist for the F and up the third for the G.

roryshaughn (report)

the Fmaj7 and G6 chords are the same form; that is to say, the G6 is played like the Fmaj7, only two frets higher, on the third fret. The high E string is allowed to ring open, hence the 6th of the G chord is the open E
