I find going up 2 semitones sounds more like the original too.
Capo +2 to match John Denver - these are the easiest chords to play (at least for me).
This works but John Denver must have played in a different key. I find going -2 semitones sounds more like the original.
If you are beginner and have not mastered the F chord yet, I think Fm7 works okay as well, which is easier to play.
Pretty damn good. Even for a complete beginner like me. :)
