Artless (report)
In the third line of verse two, the lyric is "as long as you've got someone to lay with." Metrically, this line ends with a trochee, i.e., a strong stress on "lay" followed by a weak stress on "with." The other lines in the verse end with iambs (weak/strong)and so the metre leads one to drop "with." However, failure to keepo the word "with" makes the line sound more callous than it actually is. Compare the sense of saying "someone to lay with," and "someone to lay." The second is cruder than the first.
