I am personally a big anti-Yamaha guy so I wouldnt be able to make a fair choicce.

I say, sell both and get a Gibson/gibson Copy (Gould/Epiphone) or a fender/Squier guitar. (DONT GET A SQUIER STRATOCASTER, GET A SQUIER JAGMASTER)

square hole) If it is than you have a few

options #1 use the traditional 3 single coil

pick ups. #2 use (2)humbuckers wired with a 5

way switch which will give you the capabilities

to play both humbucker sound and split coil

(single coil) sound from a humbucker. A wiring

kit, new pearloid pick guard (my usual pick)

and pick ups should run about $125.00. If you

know how to solder and read schematics, other

wise you need somesome one to wire it for you.

Try GFS pick ups (www.guitarfetish.com) their

prices are reasonable and quality product. If

you want high end check out rio grande pickups.

will require more pressure than a lower action

since there is more distance from the finger

board to the string. You won't turn into a

body builder but when you go to an action that

is lower you will reconize the difference in

pressure you'll need to get a clear note. In

essence you're still playing the same your not

changing your style or technique. The

difference is going to be the feel of the

guitar neck and the fluidness of your playing.

I know that perfect technique is as elusive as absolute zero, but truthfully, one should play the exact same way on high action that they would play on low action too.  on the left hand you really just have to keep a straight wrist and let gravity do most of the work for you...try this:  Play a scale, any scale...but here is the exercise, try to buzz every note.  You will see how softly you have to press to actually get the note out.  Gravity is your left hands best friend!

I have the "Fat Strat" version of the mexi Strat - what pickups do you recommend to "hot rod" the axe? I really love playing the old girl - would like to use her a little more. price you paid for your used RGX. The MIM strat

body is more than likely an alder body while

your yamaha probley basswood(?). I have a

23 year old Guild C45F ac/el that I relpaced

the original pick up with a B Band set up that

I would use for worship. (last band I played in

for 5 years)

I know you already sold the yamaha. On a stand

point of confusion (yes I will confuse you

with my statments). There is two school of

thought #1 keep the one with the best action

and sound. It will be easier to play and sound

great. #2 keep the one with the rough (high)

action because it will be harder to play and

you will gain alot of hand and finger stregnth

while your learning. The tonal quality may

still be good even if the action is high. On

#2 when you progress and when it comes to

up grade your playing will be faster and you

will have hand strength so your chords will

sound clearer. Hope this train of thought is

as clear as mudd to you.

People who don't play have little or no appreciation for the fact that instruments don't heal . . . I cringe anytime I see a non-musician grab any instument - it's like watching a curious child mangle a butterfly.

Better for you to find a deserving individual who is wanting a guitar - somebody who would truly appreciate the opportunity to play and enjoy the instrument.  Ask around - somebody will know someone who will feel that your old guitar is like manna from heaven (to continue the biblical theme).

It's a great opportunity to spread some joy - don't waste it by giving the guitar to a 'group' - give it to an aspiring player.
