Now that we have our recording capability up and running, I want to get Casey and my arrangements on some classics. I am working on full band arrangements of:
"The Saints Go Marching in"-parade band version
"Got You on my Mind" by Delbert McClinton - in two part harmony.
I did a cleaned up version of Pat Dailey's "What the H#** You Got Against Fish" that got me fussed at. A lot of folks liked it better with all the cussin'.

I love "Bubbly" and "You Were Meant for Me", but definitely out of my range. I'd have to completely re-arrange them and turn them around. I like doing that, but it's not in the cards just this moment.

The three I'm working on right now, as long as this thread has resurfaced, are:
1. I Still Miss Someone (a fairly straight cover vocally, but adding a little interest with fingerpicking instead of straight boom-chicka-boom strum)
2. Wagon Wheel (also a fairly straight cover - the timing is hard for me on this one vocally)
3. Cold Day In July (Dixie Chicks) - Fairly straight cover, but a different picking pattern. I'm experimenting with slow-picking down arpeggios, just kind of a slow sweep down with one of my picking fingers. It's kind a pleasant sound.)

Thanks Zurf. I learned it as a kid, so the version that's in my head is the way my Dad played it. There are a LOT of songs like that! I never heard originals until after I knew the song well from my Dad's perspective. LOL! I've tried playing it with a little slap strum, some palm muting, just finger picking, straight strumming, everything... but I'm not happy with it yet. Still work on it a little here and there

Now I'm working on:
I'm Yours - Jason Mraz
You were meant for me - Jewel
Bubbly - Colby Caillat

But all the others I've picked up at some point are still there when my brain starts to hurt... that Jewel song isn't too tricky, but try singing with feeling while picking it out. Whew!

nice thread! Learned, transposed, arranged, and wrote these 3 out today while Baby and Mommy was napping!!! Had to work fast and efficient.

I haven't been able to get any new songs to try since my home pc has crashed. I'm glad i print all of my songs because without them i could only play about 10 songs and half of them i would mess up.lol

Only three? I have a bunch that I work on all the time, and then one will stand out to me and I'll get it down pretty good... then back to the bunch that I'm working on all the time again! LOL!

i just tinker with bits of songs

I get a technique and play loads of songs in that style for a bit

I'm messing around with pick scrapes at the moment. how many songs use pick scrapes. its a very 'punk' thing. turn the distortion up and just run the side of the pick down the bass string quite fast. perfect intro.

also lots of damping. particularly Superbad by James Brown, possibly "not fade away" by the Stones (a sort of bo diddley thing)

finally i was playing a snow patrol song a while back. think it was 'Run' nice and slow guitar parts there.

I play this in taropatch tuning DGDGBD and a little differently than he does in the vid. -Pix
I play in something similar but the B is dropped down a half step

I take it as mild humor He's just saying that most slackkey transcriptions are loosely based and ,often times, played with a little variety from one time to the next. A lot of alternate tunings are used and your fingerings change from one version to the next and have different timber even if the notes are the same..... Hey tops, If you capo on 1st, you can play most of the song with G, E7, A7, & D7 with an occasional Bm and G6th? (020030) there are a few other little runs through out the song but those chords are the meat and potatoes of it...
