Hi there! I am all excited to discover this excellent site chordie. 43 years young I play guitar 4 meditation when i get a rare moment but socialize with wonderful musicians sometimes where i love to sing (harmonize) along if they are unplugged (mic shy). I played the mandolin at 8 and started the classical guitar. I learnt all the theory stuff until about 16. dont know what happened then thats life. couldnt play along without a book so left it for a long while. But now I am ready to break out and JUST PLAY. I can now learn some great songs just hope they can stay in my head haha gotta make time to practice and more practice til they get in the heart ey? peace

Hi tinawill247 - I guess your hello worked this time at least. I wouldn't rely too much on the "who is online" feature - at least for me anyway - I often remain logged in whenever I am home, even though I may be away from computer for hours. I'd recommend sending private emails for chit-chat, hello type stuff - no need to clog up the forum with those type of posts. I know it annoys me when a couple of members post multiple messages in a back and forth 2-way communication that are better suited for a private chat or email. Just my 2 cents. The forum is a good way to say "hello" to the group though, so hello back at ya and to everyone else too!

Welcome to the forum tinawill247 - If you have been lurking for a while (as indicated by your post), you already know that this is the friendliest, most helpful group of musicians on the entire net. I'm glad you spoke up and welcome you to the group!

Thats a funny story - learning on a 12. Reminds me of a golf tale - a lot of teachers tell beginners never to use a driver (because it is the most difficult club). I was taught with ONLY the driver, the logic being if I could learn to hit that club, every other club would be a breeze.

Now that I think about it - There is no moral to my story - that was 30 years ago and I still can't hit a *&%$ golf ball with any consistency

Hi Everyone! Someone asked me recently how long I have been playing and I was stunned to realize that 26 years had passed since I took my book money for 1st semester at college and bought a used 12 string instead. I have been using Chordie for a while now, but since I am a pretty basic computer user, I wasn't sure about joining. After reading about each of you I decided to brave it and am really glad I did.

There's been a lot of water under the bridge since my first C chord, but I am still as passionate now as I was that first year away at school. I learned by watching others and still play the basic same simple music. I have added an Ibanez 6 string to my collection (a gift from my husband), and this year I treated myself to a new 12 string Breedlove. I was given an electric guitar from my uncle that he bought in the 50's but I don't know what to do with it. It looks great, however, next to my old time favorite 12 string Epiphone.

Only a real rookie would have tried to learn on a 12 but I didn't know any better. I figured...more strings....more sound. Eventually, I learned I was right. I still play mostly for myself but occasionally get brave enough to play for family and friends. Nothing like a room full of voices singing along.

Glad to be part of your group now.
