MKM thank you even tho it is a older song there is a lot of emotion in the melody and Judy was able to bring it out I loved that movie (I still have a copy) glad you liked my take on it
mekidsmom wrote:Excellent Russell... I agree with Ark... just right and not over the top... in fact, I will even say it was beautiful! I think even Judy would have liked your version!
Ark its nice to hear this thank you this song has always been a favorite and untill I got the effects and loop station I most likely would not have attempted it thanks
arkady wrote:Russ you are on a roll my friend that was excellent.
The arrangment for the strat was right on the money with the FX set just right. Upbeat without going over the top.
All in all one of your best covers.
Thanks
ark

Nice job Stephen
standing all alone before an audience takes a lot, with a band if it dont go well you have each other to fall back on I liked the presentation and the tuning was not that noticable to distract from your performance including the baby well done
Randy its been a bit how ya been? glad ya liked the tune it was fun arranging
riddler wrote:Now I liked that!...
hey Mike thanks its fun to mess around with songs like getting your hands into some soft wet clay
papaguitar wrote:Hey Rusell---another fine job, enjoyed your take on the lead. I mess around with song occasionally. Mike
Thanks for taking time to give a listen I appreciate all your comments
well this is no Eva Cassidy to be sure but its my arrangement a few minor boo boos but I left them in just to show you I am human
besides overall I was pleased with it and re doing it again and again dilutes the original feeling hope you enjoy

I would like to give a little background on this song before I video tape my instrumental arrangement of it,the music was composed by Harold Arlen and the Lyrics by E.Y.Harburg in 1939 and sung by Judy Garland in the movie "The Wizard of Oz" I found the chord changes here on Chordie under "Over The Rainbow by Olivia Newton John" I have taken the liberty of re- arranging the basic chord structure by adding some additional minor 7th and diminished chords because the arrangement lacked a flowing transition to suit my treatment.I pre-recorded the basic guitar track so I could play a lead to it with my Boss RC-20XL loop station the lead solo is kicked through a Boss ME-50 using delay and distortion (fat setting on tone and rat on distortion) this was fed into a stereo Phonic pa, there are no other tracks added I will upload it later to myspace and provide a link to the video.
Thank you my lady and I remember watching Doris Day,Gene Kelly,Frank Sinatra in a lot of musicials along with Donald O'conner those were special times

mekidsmom wrote:Russell_Harding wrote:MKM I always thought it was "of" Broadway "oh well on is OK to I never saw the sheet music for it just remembered the melody and I have been kicking around a unusual treatment of "Over The Rainbow" on Electric guitar with effects I am still working it out but early results sound cool thank you for your comments
mekidsmom wrote:Russell you amaze me. Never in my life did I think I'd hear "lullaby on broadway" on guitar! There are a lot of songs that I LOVE that are "piano" songs but I've found chords for them and try to play them on my guitar... it's different for sure, but it works! Isn't music such an amazing canvas to work with?!!!!! Good job Russell! Thank you!
Looked it up... it is "OF" not "ON" ... my bad, you were right! Can't wait to hear "Over the Rainbow"! A fav for sure!
Thanks Kenny I am happy with the positive feedback on this I wasn't sure what kind of reaction to this rendering there would be, so onward to another horizon

Ark the music seems at times to have a mind of its own once the melody line has been played,I just seem to think it as it happens hard to explain thanks for your comments
arkady wrote:Hi Russ
Love the originality of this piece.
Some times you have to go where the music takes you.
Well done
ark
how do we check it out without a link?
Thanks Wayne and I know your neck of the woods I played a gig in Jackson Hole absoultly breath taking views this was in the 70ths and it looked like an early Reno Nevada with lots of elk or deer (not sure which) met a nice gal there

I had a similar thought kind of swing jazz of the early forties in a cramped ballroom with people dancing with numbers on there back for hours to win a prize thanks for listening

A funked up version - I can see the top hats, tails and dancing troop wheeling around in my mind. Well done.

papaguitar wrote:Hey there Russell, great job on that one. The title of the song thru me off at first. Mike
