I had a classical guitar that was given to me by the pastor of the church I attended back in the mid-90's. I played it for a few months but couldn't get used to the feel of the nylon strings so I put it in the closet and didn't give it anymore thought. A few years later my sister asked me if I had a guitar should could borrow that would be easy to learn on. I gave her the classical thinking it might be easier on her fingers. She still has it nearly 20 years later but never really learned to play.

I've never tried playing classical pieces. That style involves knowing the scales and a lot of finger picking which I have never been able to wrap my fingers around.

All these different versions of Don't Think Twice have inspired me. smile

When I got the guitar out tonight and went to work on it. It should be somewhat fit for human audio consumption before the end of the month.

Zurf, I believe you have a new campfire song. smile

Hey copper,

Just wanted to let you know; I moved this out of the "Featured Song of the Month" section and into "chat" where it is more appropriate. smile

Love that tune. Have you heard Mike Masse's cover? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S54dM8kefoE

Nope. Never heard that one. Love the 12 string.

But now I have to curse you. I see myself spending far too much time going through all the Mike Masse covers. smile

Cool!!

I happen to have my version of that already recorded. Actually I have several. It's part of my regular rotation. This is from last summer when I introduced it to Scott.

I loved your City of New Orleans and the lady was sounding good in jt also.

And the funny thing was, she really didn't know the song. That's why she lagged behind on the last line of the chorus.

That's my birthday weekend, but I have an archery thing going on.  If the archery thing falls through, I'll likely come around.  I had a ball at your place last year.  A great time and a wonderful host.  This year, though, I'll bring a tent and throw it up - regardless of gravel.  It turns out that I'm skilled at destroying tents.

My birthday was a few days before the NY GTG.

If you can make it and want to drag the pop-up along I can get you a space to set it up.

The "trunk". The cargo space at the back end of the car.

My partner plays one more often than anything else. He loves the sound and playability of it.  The one he's playing in this video he bought  some years ago before Peavy bought out CA Guitars. He paid $1200 for it.

It's probably close to the same travel time for UJB.

Just over 6 hours. I mapped it out last night. smile

Great to hear all your voices and playing down here in NZ.

I just had another look at our map and it appears you folks in NZ have a nice close group. Maybe you need to have a Chordiefest down under and share it with us. There's a fair amount of ocean and I don't know what travel is like, but there are a few more in Australia. Just sayin' smile

JJJ was clearly a bit nervous, being his first Chordie event, but he fit right in after "pahking the cah"

Well, let me tell ya. I know exactly how he felt.

I met with Zurf and topdown a couple months before last years NY get together and for whatever reason I was comfortable there with just the three of us. But when I went to NY in August I was just shy of terrified. I hadn't played in front of that large a group of people in over 20 years. To top it off I had only picked up the guitar a little over a year before that, after my 20 year hiatus, so I was feeling rather inadequate in that respect as well. Turns out it was all for naught. I was made to feel welcome immediately. I couldn't have asked for a better experience. Going back was a no-brainer when the '16 dates were announced. If this is to be an annual event, which it looks like it will be, I'll be there. You couldn't ask for a better group of people.

I have to practice a couple Dead songs to play with UJB before we get together again so I don't mess it up again. Lol. I promise I'll practice Joe..

It appears you did quite a bit of practicing since I last saw you. Your improvement was quite impressive. You have absolutely nothing to be ashamed of. We all started at the same place and you've come a looooog way since I met you last August. I'll make up and send you a list of some of the easier songs I play on a regular basis. You can fool around with them and play along in October. Things like Eyes of the World and Jack Straw should probably be put off for a little longer though. smile

Here is something to hold you over until Amy gets time to upload a few of the 30+ videos I shot. I'm on the right and Dirty Ed is on the left. The other voice coming from off the screen is Mike(Amy's dad). I can't upload to Amy's page so it had to go on mine.

BTW Amy, tell your dad it was 1959. He was guessing 1965.

That's only the 3rd or 4th time I've played it in public and this is the first time it's been recorded. It was nice to hear how it came out. Needs polished up a bit. roll

Made it home in one piece. Thank you Jim and Amy for a wonderful weekend!
