My question is how does this help them if the only chords they know how to play does not fit their voice range or the voice of the person with them who is doing the singing? I agree it is great to be able to call up a song that is in the key of (place key here) and to be able to play it. Gives you a feeling of accomplishment. I think that if one learns SEVERAL simple basic progressions (leave out the key of B or F and any of the flat keys) a whole different world then opens up for you. Then learn how to transpose a song to a different key or the proper use of a capo and you can open up the universe. This tool (search by chords) is a well thought out item but don't limit your learning of playing by depending on this as the answer to you becoming a GUItar GOD.

I think for some the felling of accomplishment comes from learning to play any song. If you learn a Em, G, C, D song then why not try to learn six more with the same progression. That way you can get more playing under your belt in a shorter amount of time because you already know the chords.

I didn't see any reserve set on them. I'm sure they will go up but if you could a Taylor for a decent price then have it fixed back to normal would it be worth it? Probably too much hassle and work to get it back in shape. And it would just encourage them to Zagerize more guitars.

But how can you knock it, it is, after all SCIENCE. roll

I agree. He hired you for what you were doing not for what he wants you to do. (Well sort of) Why should the fact that money is involved make things any different. Do what you do and you will be fine. It's not like it's your VERY first time.

Knock 'em dead!!!

Don't you hate(love) it when a deal comes along that you can't pass up.

Only 37% better huh? Too bad you couldn't get 38% out of it.

I agree with Zurf, maybe he was in drop beer tuning. I think it's tuned ABEEER.

I pretty much figured it out, well it's working for me anyway. I have to use my fingers instead of my hand on the up strum. Kinda like pushing the pick up instead of dragging it. Also, the pick kinda bounces off the strings not raking them and I'm only hitting 1 or 2 stings. Maybe the G & B. I think with some practice it will sound really good. I need to remember to slow down too.

Thanks for all the advice

So, 2 months later..... I finally got around to strumming one of those Staggs. It was decent. A total beginners guitar. The action was a bit high. It took a little effort to barre. But they will serve their purpose nicely.

We are spoiled for sure. We live in a throw away society. We get something, use it, abuse it, throw it out , and buy a new one. Consumerism at if finest. As far as knowing your instrument and being a better musician goes, how many people try to be musicians? I think most people who own a guitar just want to play songs or make some noise. They have no dreams of playing professionally so musicianship is lost on them. Youtube is there goal so their friends can see them. Musicians are few and far between.

If you can, get yours hands on it to give it a test drive. Love the flamed purple!!!!

Good find Pete!!! He has the same guitar I do. Love the A&L.

I find his notation a little confusing tho. But if you listen to him play them it works out.

Welcome to the forums Cueball.

I have a hard time with strumming also. I'm getting better at being able to listen and pick out what's going on. To me strumming is as important as the chords are. Your strum should happen between the chords that are shown on your song sheet.

G                     C       G                   D
Hey, where did  we go days when the rains came

So for this song (Brown Eyed Girl - Van Morrison) you would play DDUUDU for the G then switch to the C DDUUDU switch to G and so on. So you don't really strum TO the words. What can be helpful is to remember the word that the chord change hits on. In this example they are we, days, and rain. If you're fairly new to guitar or are just having trouble then I would try to find a video of a version you like and emulate that one. That's what I do.

I agree with Zurf. There is no ONE way to do it. Look up any song on youtube and you'll see variations.

Prayers going out for Ron.

I can see him going to Home Depot, that's a normal store. The party store is questionable. What do you need at a party store that you can't get somewhere else? Oak Glen is in the foothills. Nothing up there really. A few little shops and restaurants, touristy stuff mainly. There's always something going on up there tho. It is a good place to get away from everything since it is away from everything. Maybe Amy is right, he just wanted to get away for awhile.

Keep us posted Bun.
