A while ago I was in discussion with Russ about video recording as I was impressed with his 'video within video' that I as not able to do and Trakax was what was recommended. I had problems getting the free trial to work but, as it is not a very expensive piece of software, I took the plunge last week and bought it.

I have been working on a video and I had a problem, as I had received an e-mail from Cormac Barry at the company asking me to write if I needed any help, I decided to do just that. The company is based in Ireland and so their time is the same as mine and at 21:44 I wrote, explaining my problem and hoping to get a reply sometime tomorrow.

Imagine my surprise when just 17 minutes later not only do I get a reply but I get a personalised video showing me exactly what to do to resolve my issues.

Now that is Service with a capital 'S'.

Them guys are good that is why I recommend them Cormac will bend over backwards to help and it is a fantastic software program at a really low cost smile

OK!! a huge thanks to Amy and Doug, after downloading Malwarebytes and C Cleaner I did some house cleaning in the registry and browsers my boot time went from around 5 minutes to.......wait for it....................1:20 sec.!!!! I dumped the slow loading Avast and took Amy's advice and stopped some programs from loading at the start my new anti virus is the free PANDA and Malwarebytes I only hope it stays this way at least I know it isn't the video card just some unnecessary bloatware that can be used when called upon smile

TF when I finish setting up my new recording studio/video layout it will get a lot of use smile

It looks like Marshall has replaced the AVTs with their DSL series. Is yours a full tube unit, or a hybrid? I've always preferred the sound of a Marshall tube amp over a Fender tube. I know the Fender Twin is a "go to" amp for a lot of players, but I just find the Marshall JVMs have more growl.

TF From the description as I understand the amp has a tube preamp so hybrid makes sense I had a Fender twin and a Hot rod deluxe deville the hot rod kicked butt. My plan for this amp is to use it in stereo with my Epiphone if I need to play a large venue they can mic it.

Ok, Russell, next thing I'd check is the start up programs.  These are the programs that get themselves ready to go during the start up process.  There's a few ways to do this, but since you have CC Cleaner installed, we'll go that route since it's fairly easy.

When you go into CC Cleaner, you'll see "tools" on the left, and then once you click on that, click on "Start up" and make sure you're in the "Windows" tab at the top - you're going to probably see a whole HUGE list of things that start up when your computer starts.  Now, some of those things are important and you don't want to disable them, but others are not so much!  ie: Adobe Reader does not need to start up when you start your computer and run in the background (unless you spend every day reading PDF documents).  If you don't ever use google drive, but it's starting at start up you can disable that too.  This doesn't mean that they won't work when you want them to, it just means they won't be open and ready to go first thing (hogging your start up time unnecessarily).  If you want, you can take a screenshot of what you see here and email it to me, I'll happily look though the list and let you know what you can safely disable on start up.  I tend to be very cautious, and only disable things that I'm 100% sure aren't necessary.  As much as I like the ease of use of CC Cleaner, I do disable the monitor on start up also by the way.  wink  For example, I use a few image editing programs on my laptop, but I have them disabled on start up because while I use them often, I do NOT use them every day.  I'd prefer to wait while they load when I'm ready to use them, rather than have them slow my system down on start up.  smile

The built in Windows "Snip it" tool is great for taking screenshots!

Windows 10 promises faster start up times.  I hope that it does work well on your laptop!  In the meantime though, having a lot of stupid things starting that aren't needed will go a long way to speeding up not only your start up, the the whole computer in general because - if they don't open on start up, then they won't be open in the background as your using it either (until you need them).  smile

*I'd have turned this into a private convo. many posts ago - but I think it's good for people to be able to find useful info.  I'm also hoping that if I steer Russell wrong, someone will correct me so I can learn something new too!  smile  Thanks to Doug for the support, and I forgot to mention that I appreciate the info about the SSD's.  I had read a little about the mechanics of them and had a bit of concern re: spinning etc.  Good to know that I chose wisely by not wasting money on one!  I am curious though, what you think about the hybrid drives (500 gb + 8GB SSD).  I didn't get one of those either, seemed kind of gimicky.  I think I'll try Linux when I get some extra time to fiddle around on the computer (who knows when that'll be).  I'm pretty curious!  smile

Amy I have no knowledge of the hybrids and I will check out the start up i can also type in msconfig to get the items but I will take a screen shot or two for you and email them or just post them here smile

It is a Marshall AVT 20 I got it on Ebay for 200 + free shipping it will sound nice with all my effects I may put in a newer speaker or two I dont know till after I play thru it. This was sitting in a Pawn shop in Texas and the seller has done business with Ebay many times and has a good rating from people who purchased items from him in the past. It has a 10"speaker but I can easily put in a nice 12" and it puts out 20w dirty and clean channels I plan on using it with my Epiphone amp for a miked stereo effect for both recording and performance which will sound cool with delay and stereo chorus effect not to mention my Electro Harmonix C9 I'm going for sound not power.

Sounds like you've got a plan in place!

I particularly liked in your original post where you said

I wanted this so I got it today...

- it sounded like you had the proverbial "wild hair up your a$$" and saw it/bought it. I was in my local Guitar Center recently (I know, I know... "big-box store - hiss, boo!" but I happened to be in there because there was a ridiculous sale on a Simmons drum kit - $199!), and while wandering through the acoustic guitar room saw a used acoustic electric bass for $89, so though I really didn't need it, I got a "wild hair up my azz" and put a deposit on it. I get to pick it up tomorrow (it's on their version of consignment, the seller has 30 days to change their mind about selling it), which is fine since I'm going for a cortisone shot in my right forearm today and won't be playing for a day or so, anyway...

yep that about sums it up I aint getting any younger and there are no pockets in the coffin LOL

This is a better and more informative description (not mine)

Model # is AVT20X.  You can pretty much take this amp ANYWHERE. At 20 watts, it's not so loud for practice so you can get bedroom/apartment/wife and family friendly volumes, while still getting a good dose of that signature Marshall sound ! (You can also avoid making ANY enemies at all with the onboard headphone jack ! Sweet !)
But it's loud enough so you can actually take it to band rehearsal with you and she will keep up nicely.  Got a crazy loud drummer that pounds the living tar out of his kit?  NO problem ! Take the extension speaker out, hook the amp up to a 2x12 or 4x12 (or heck, TWO 4x12's if you want a full stack to bury your drummer and that other pesky guitarist!), and you've got INSTANT Marshall Stack sound !  Amazing!

This also means that you are covered at all but the biggest venues or stadiums !  Sound guy hard to please?  No problem, keep your 4x12 onstage for looks and just mic this amp directly and you are covered for the entire gig !  Play this amp of course for its coveted overdrive, but the clean sound is very useable, and is a terrific platform for pedals !

One of the best  of the 2000s, reportedly used by Incubus and Zakk Wylde. Powerful yet crisp and clean, perfect for everything. Tube preamp is incredible, but without ever having to replace expensive power amp tubes.

Did you run CC Cleaner on the registry yet Russell?  That will remove unneeded files left over from removing programs, which might resolve issues.  A LOT of junk gets left over when you uninstall stuff, and it can really mess with start up.

Graphics was something I thought of a few posts ago, and may have mentioned... but I'd do everything else before going there.  Don't forget, run CC Cleaner to clear up registry files a few times.  It doesn't always get everything in one go.

Next step, check Dell - They have a driver update utility that you can download to make life easier and ensure your drivers are up to date (or search manually and just download the drivers you need, if you know what you need wink ) here:  http://www.driverscape.com/manufacturer … -n5050/318

Let us know how it's coming along.  smile

Amy i ran c cleaner in the registry I am still getting a pause and on the 29 windows is updating me to windows 10 so that might solve the problem  have to wait and see thanks for the info and links I appreciate your help smile

You did say it was a laptop right?  And yes that would have "integrated" graphics unlike desktops that usually have an PCIE socket for installing an "upgrade" video card.  Once in awhile you can get a corrupt driver though, which will sure act like a failing graphics chip.  I know that HP had a whole batch of theirs come out of the factory with bad solder on the graphics "board" (not really a board per se)..... I had one of them and wound up having to buy a new mainboard (with the defect corrected), cost about $100 and a couple hours of tedious work to dismantle the thing and get it changed out.
Naturally it was out of warranty by the time it manifested. Been working great ever since!

Doug how do I find out if I have a corrupt driver, take it in to a repair shop?

+1 on Amy's recommendations.  I have used different but similar tools with good results, and those are user "safe" as any out there.  If you have installed and uninstalled stuff over time I would likely expect registry errors, but even just updates can "snarffle" things up over time (2 years is a good run without having to fiddle with your Windows install).

Surely worth the effort Russell.  I should also add, that you are a cautious surfer, so security essentials would likely serve you well.  You have to manually allow the install to run from your "Windows software preferences (options)" as it does not automatically install itself (even though "crap-ware" does) when installing a new Windows OS.

Doug I installed malwarebytes and it seems to have sped things up but I still have an issue with the pause before the blue welcome screen I could try C cleaner and see if it cleans the registry of long deleted programs that might have files still clogging up the works

mekidsmom wrote:

I hate to say it, Russell, and maybe Doug will correct me... but... in my experience, a good portion of the time the antivirus is the issue.  Avast, AVG, Kapersky, as well as what I refer to as the dreaded Norton and McAfee can cause issues.  I found that if you're not visiting websites aimed at risky behavior and you never ever fall for the advertisements that look like virus warnings, then you can get away fine with the free Windows antivirus (Windows Essentials has to be downloaded for yours, or Windows Defender comes pre-installed on Win 8).  Along with that, running the free version of Malwarebytes on occasion to take down anything little that does get through is good to do (don't install the full blown antivirus for purchase and don't agree to add the free trial of antivirus while installing.  I'm not saying it's bad.  I'm saying I don't endorse it.  Good surfing habits will keep you safer than any paid program).

If this issue started right after you installed your video software - it could be a problem with the software, or video drivers on the machine.  It doesn't sound like it, because it's happening at start up.

OK - so at this point, I'm going to give you the suggestions of what I would personally do - and I also suggest FIRST waiting from Doug to hear what he thinks about it before moving forward.  I know a good deal of "stuff" but he has more "miles"  wink

1. download Malwarebytes - run it, remove crap and find out that your antivirus isn't doing you much good anyway  2. remove Avast 3. remove any other crapware on your computer that you don't use (like those Norton and McAffee trial software versions) 3. Download and run CC Cleaner Free (unless Doug thinks this is a no-no, but I like it - and JUST run the registry cleaner:  http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download) - you'll need to run it a few times until it comes up clean  4. Download Microsoft Security Essentials for Win 7 (http://www.microsoft.com/security/pc-se … tials.aspx)  and make sure it's enabled.  Run a scan to make it happy, even though you know it won't find anything because you already ran Malwarebytes forever ago.  smile  ** Now your computer should be clean and the most likely culprit removed as well as registry entries straightened out.  Reboot.  See if you still have the weird hanging upon booting up.  Cross fingers.

*Malwarebytes removes stuff that gets though.  It's awesome.  It doesn't block things from getting in though.  Antivirus blocks stuff from getting in.  Although you paid good money for it, Antivirus software sucks and doesn't block what it should.  CC-Cleaner helps make sure everything that you've removed gets removed properly - files needed and not needed to run programs are where they should be so that Windows doesn't have to hunt for them or hunt through useless ones.  It has functions to help clear browser history and cookies and such, and you can use those features if you want (which you can do manually as well), but for now just focus on the registry.

Amy I am willing to give it a try with malwarebytes I dont know about cc cleaner the laptop is only a little over 2 years old so it must already have the windows essentials but I have not seen them in my list of programs I deleted avast and installed Panda last night panda boots right away but the RST (rapid storage technology) boots slow and is always the last to load before I can open my email.
