Bill,  mail sent via the Chordie mail system will just show up in the e-mail account you used to register (and you can change it in your profile if you change mail providers), I would be suspicious of opening anything that resembles mail from an "untrusted source".  So Good Call!

Like Top, I'm thinking some clever phishing ad from somewhere.

Thanks for calling it to our attention so other members will be aware of it.

Congratulations Jim!  That is one great guitar you have there, and the next thing you know you and Amy will be playing duets..... for many years to come.

Here's a little inspiration:    www.youtube.com/watch?v=8WrnMQu8XWI

Happy NGD!

Welcome to the Forums!  First off there has been a bit of discussion about various issues with display format in the About Chordie section.  Some of them may or may not be applicable to your situation.  Honestly, the site has been checked and double checked for errors, and we are not seeing what you are.  So rather than just leave it at that, you can help us help you by providing a little more information......  primarily:

What kind of device you are using;  laptop, tablet, phone, desktop PC or Mac.
Operating system you run;  (including the version) Windows, iOS, Android, Linux, or ??
Browser:  version info as well
Extensions;  Ad Block or Filtering, Anti-virus
Display; type and resolution settings

And possibly a screen capture (which you can send via e-mail if posting it to the forum is difficult).

With that stuff we stand a better than average chance of solving the problem, with just a couple of changes in your user settings on your device.

Thanks;
Doug

That's a Family!  Congratulations (especially Kim who did all the hard work)!

Recently my nephew and his wife announced their impending addition with a facebook photo of their Lab "Memphis" holding a sign that read:

"I'm So Excited!  Mom & Dad are getting Me a Human!"

All the Best;

I thought I'd re-open this topic rather than starting another thread.

Well the other day, Dear Spousal Unit walked in from a little shopping trip and presented me with a new microphone.  Not that I have a shortage of them, but each has it's uses and so I own like 8 of the darn things, and I look at it like not playing Tennis in your Golf shoes. Sometimes you fit the tool to the job..... so I accepted gracefully, the brand splinter-fire new Blue Snowball USB mic with a sincere Thank You Honey!  While thinking to myself "what were you thinking?".

Anyway I like it and it does everything it is supposed to do without dragging out the pre-amp, cables, DI interface and all that stuff that goes with, just to fiddle around for a few minutes.  Awhile back there was some discussion about interfaces on another thread here, and comments about some difficulty getting your DAW to play well with some of the hardware that is out there..... well, while I was checking out the Blue website I saw this neat little thing they call "Icicle".   Thought it might be of value to some members, so figured I'd mention it here.  The Icicle is a small adaptor that plugs onto your XLR cable from whatever microphone you already own, and then via USB connects directly to your PC.  It contains a pre-amp, phantom power for condenser mics and requires no drivers.  Granted it is not a dual input device, but still pretty neat and compact.

You can check all the Blue products on their website:  www.bluemic.com

And I have added it to my "wanna-buy" list.

Roger.... I know you are accustomed to driving as we do..... was meant to be more of a warning about how poorly most of us drive.  Nice to know it is more universal.  When we returned from Turkey, my folks had to get California Driving Licenses...... Mom was well on her way to failing until the examiner looked at her Turkish one..... and started erasing all the bad marks on his evaluation sheet.

In Europe however, if you upset another driver, they lean on the horn and curse you and most of your family...... over here they roll down their window and shoot!

Be safe!

Did Roger just offer to be the "designated driver"?  Always a good idea when there's a party with "adult beverages"...... but he should be warned that we drive on the "right" side of the road here, and everyone drives like they are the only ones out there.  Arrogant, agressive, reckless, and pretty much like they are running from the law!

Are you using the app, or the browser?  There have been some issues with ads interfering with the page frame display (mostly covering the chord grids) and enabling your device to render the desktop rather than the mobile version of chordie might make things better.  Also enabling ad block will stop the ads from displaying on the page, so you might try that.

Browse through this section postings and topics and there are tons of discussions about the issue.  With so many different devices out there it is hard to stay up to date on all of them..... but for the most part the site works as it should, with a little change on how your device displays the pages.

Well TT, it seems to be us.... I just checked and it is not working for me either.  I would not have noticed though as I tend to use "mouse scroll" rather than the autoscroll function, but Thanks for calling it to our attention!  There has been some work in progress on the site lately, so perhaps it is just a temporary thing, but it is always nice to know if something is amiss so it can be checked.

Good to hear that you got around having to stop in the northern states Roger!  Those airport cots are not comfy at all, and there are far too many folks sparring for the most out-of -the-way carpeted sections.  Had to spend a night in Los Angeles once when a connection in San Francisco got shut down due to fog...... not a restful night at all!

Have fun & give regards to all that attend!

Doug

keeping my fingers crossed for all those who are flying into or out of the Eastern States this week..... another little Winter Package rumoured to be delivered Tonight and into early tomorrow.  Sincerely hoping that none of our Chordians get snarled up and "stuck" in some Airport.

I was particularly concerned about Roger.  It is strange that you can fly non-stop from Zurich to Tampa on Swissair.... and most everything else has to be filtered through New York, Newark, Washington, Philly, or Detroit.  Not like they ever get any nasty winter weather in any of those places!

Bon Route!

You might have to change your display settings, there has been discussion about that at:  http://www.chordie.com/forum/viewtopic. … 28#p158628

Browse around this section for other discussions on issues of pages rendering..... as the mobile version displays differently than the desktop one, and not always as "pretty" on some devices depending on how much real estate is available on the screen.  The frames can get a bit "scrunched" and overlap each other.

Thanks for posting.

Not giving me the option to add to my playbook...What's up with that?

Over on the right hand side of the song page, at the bottom of the menu, you should find the link to add the tune to your book.  I understand that for some (?) the link used to be at the bottom of the page..... I always assumed that the layout was different on some browsers, and it was a Mac issue.

Thanks

Well, everything seems correct for me, so I have to ask what device you are using, which browser, and if you could send a screen shot to admin so it can be investigated.

Are you referring to only half of your index, or half a page, or only part of what you are seeing actually prints?  More information is always helpful, especially if we have to try to duplicate the issue and search for a fix.

Thanks

Doug if string tension is the issue would a drop tuning help?

I don't play a lot of nylon but know that fret hand pressure is critical.

True!  I grab mine now and then... but not as often as I should.  The biggest drawback to drop tuning on nylon, is that the intonation seems to go bad fairly quickly if the tension is excessively low or high.  Think it has to do with the way the string has to vibrate at given lengths (much as all string instruments) but the nygut is less forgiving it seems.  Other's opinions may vary, and it may be a variable that different strings may not all be prone to.

La Bella 2001 Light Tension.  I've seen them for around $8 on sale (regularly about twice that) long lasting and come to pitch and stabilize fairly quickly.  The lower tension might ease the pain for awhile to get through that "awkward" phase, but don't expect really high projection (volume). That's the trade off.

One thing to try and avoid is the tendency to press too hard on the string... you can't do anything about the diameter of it digging into your tender fingertips, but really you only have to press enough to contact the fretwire, not imbed it into the wood between them!

I too like D'Addario strings, but I think the La Bella strings are softer so a good starting string until those calluses get back.

Welcome to the Forums!  I see you've both been members for awhile and these are your first posts, so a belated Welcome to Chordie! is in order.

There has been a bit of discussion on this topic and you can check out the thread here:  http://www.chordie.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=27009

The general remedy is to turn off ad blocking for Chordie, so all the frames on the page display properly, and the grids will be exposed as intended. The other is to make sure that you are using the desktop display version of your browser on mobile devices (tablets) so the page formatting (or shrinking) allows room for the page to display.  The 5 songs has not been a recent addition.... but the problem of having it overlap started cropping up with the advent of browser updates that handle frames differently.

Thanks for posting, & have a good weekend!

1.  Yes.... many folks can sing very well, the rest of us just have "Style"!  It takes practice but I think anybody can improve and a good set of monitors can really help those that don't hear what everybody else has to put up with,

2.  It's a tool and use it if you must.  I have one, and it is particularly useful for adding "voices" and depth.  But generally, I let the guitar make the music, and if I happen to be singing along..... it's likely just keeping me from mixing up the verses and chorus etc.

Did a little search, and it is difficult to determine if it is a reseller, or manufacturer.  Are there any other markings on the instrument such as a labeling or serial number, model etc. that might assist in determining the origin?  A quick browse of the catalogue shows guitars from 150 to 325 pound range in pricing, so if it's any good I would think $90 wouldn't be a bad price.  As with all instruments, and cars, test drive before you buy if at all possible.

Normally you would use some sort of piezoelectric pickup on classical guitars.... certainly no magnetics!  My preference would be K&K Sound under bridge as they are passive, retain all of the acoustic properties of the instrument and are reasonably priced. Available for Steel as well as Nylon strung guitars.
http://kksound.com/products/purepickup.php

Mekidsmom (Amy) put one in her guitar not too long ago and can give you a review if you like.

As for using Nylon strings on your already equipped acoustic..... my only thought is that you would have to readjust the action for the reduction in tension, and most classical string sets are tied onto the bridge, so finding a set with "ball ends" might be troublesome.  Good news is that if you try, you will only be out the cost of a set of strings!

my road,,,  badeye   cool

I always knew Canadians were friendly and helpful folks!  Then again that could be all the "car-pool" members trying to get to work.  Personally I never have had to dig any of my cars out of a snowbank, and would not see the purpose of extracting my car just to go nowhere..... it's not like we have a surplus of plows here in the "banana belt", so the roads would still not be driveable.

Just to toss a little salt into the wound..... Sunny and around 65F yesterday at the beach.  Clear, Sunny and expected to be close to that through Thursday.

Chordify has it scored, so you might try them and see what you can come up with.  Not the chords per-say, but at least with the notes you can derive the other.

Well Dino, those kids from New Zealand put up a good fight, but after beating the USA I think there was not enough recovery time before they had to face the formidable Islanders.  Some big beefy fast fellows for sure!  I sure wouldn't want to face more than one of them in a bar fight..... even with back-up!

In the Corps I served with a Sgt. from Samoa.... the nicest guy in the world.  One night he got a little deep in his cups up at the enlisted club, it took 8 MPs to subdue and remove him.  As luck would have it I was on duty and had to go up to the Provost Marshall's Office and retrieve him.  They had him spread eagle against the inside of the cage with leg irons on all four corners (because they didn't have handcuffs big enough to get around his wrists) and I was a bit over 6 foot and 186 pounds,  He was about my height and weighed half again me, stout, could deadlift the back half of a M151 Radio Jeep.  "what's this all about?" I asked, "they wanted me to leave and I wasn't ready to go" he replied.  Anyway I got them to unlock him and we filled out some paperwork and walked back to our little corner of the base.  He got a reprimand and had to write a letter of apology to the club manager, but you know...... everyone gave him a wide berth for a real long time..... especially the MPs!

Edited to correct numerical error:  M561 is a Gamma Goat 6X6, M151 is the Jeep, the latter loaded to the canvas with comm gear.
