I rec'd a Boss RC-3 looper pedal for Christmas.  I haven't used it a lot....but so far I'm loving it.  Easy to use....and I have several minutes of loop time.  Looks like it will stand up pretty well with lots of use.

I use Boss equipment exclusive there rugged and reliable I find new tones and ideas each time I use my Boss ME-50 I did some loops today with my loop station and transferred them to my Tascam DP24 and added some live drums that I played with my hands from my YDD Yamaha drum machine nice sound with the foot switch playing the bass pedal you can beat them with some real feeling sounds like a real kit not like a machine I think you just have to explore and experiment and you will lock in on some nice sounds that go's for any instrument smile

Russ,
are you using the free AVAST or the paid?  I used to use avast and AVG free, but they quit working so well after a few months,, I have used MS security essentials for a few years now and its really good + has its own fire wall.  I do let that one update on auto. Ever since Amy gave me the tipon MALWAREBYTES free, its been doing great also.I did pay for Error end, but man was that worth it. great customer support.  if you need a tune up let me know and ill connect you with a buddy who can do it remote from the DC area for 65 bucks.

beamer I have Avast free anti virus I have been using this on both pc's for several years with good results until this last problem which was my fault for not setting the updates to not update  all is well now but I will keep this info you provided just in case thanks smile

I have the same problem with the adobe update on windows 7. I do remember something about turning off a firewall, but don't know what that is or how ya turn it off.  I guess its time to ask my granddaughters for help. I can still long onto Chordie so thats all that really matters to me.

I would not recommend turning of any firewalls a systems restore might work for you it did for me just set the restore point back to before you had problems it will tell you which program caused it or which update I have the same windows 7 good luck smile

Yes Russell, Java can be a problem child.  Even with the updates, it can install poorly resulting in "script failed to run on this page" or similar and browser "freezes"...  Granted you need java for some webpages to display properly, and it can be a bother when they don't, the best way I've found to get a java update to "take" on the forst go-round is to go into installed programs, and remove (uninstall) all previous versions before installing the newest version.  It's almost like the new one corrupts the old one and then doesn't replace that corrupted bit when it installs leaving you with Java that's broken out of the box.

For that matter, with the exception of Windows itself, it is almost better to uninstall anything that needs updated and just install the latest clean version rather than letting it just build the new on top of the crumbling foundation of prior "patches".

Good on ya for getting the fix figured out and Take Care;  Doug

Sorry to hear you are having problems Russell... Devon suggests:

step1: run system restore to get back to whatever was working BEFORE you "updated" to what doesn't.
  http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/wind … em-restore

Step2:  reinstall adobe flashplayer from the official site.
  http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

step3: let us know if that works... or doesn't.

Take Care; Doug

PS: Beautiful day at the Beach today, Sunny with good surf....

I did that before checking back on chordie the problem is an update from Java I set a restore point to before this happened and the adobe flashplayer is installed in my program listings so I went out on the web and all the videos play and my media player opens all the video and audio files just dumb luck that I found it and I have the latest flashplayer installed but now I don't think I can allow the java update cause I thinkl it caused this problem to begin with what to do what to do but thanks for all the info and tell Devon thanks too

Yep, the new Beck's will make that thing sing. A guy near here put a set of Seymour-Duncan Blackouts in a Dean bass he had, and the improvement in sound was incredible.

I changed the strings to regular Slinkys I like the sustain and increase in volume I did some adjustments to the string height, intonation truss rod and removed a spring from the tremolo system and put some Guitar grease on the saddles and nut I will be happy when the new tuners and neck arrive the frets are too small for my tastes smile

Hopefully Russell Harding sees and replies to your post, Terrymaki. I believe he uses a loop station made by BOSS, and he's posted some video on Chordie of him using it ... does an excellent job with it!

Thanks for the nice compliment TF I have a Boss RC 20XL loop station it's great for my needs I also use a foot switch made by Boss FS-6 it allows me to loop up or down through 11 different loops I have 18 minutes that's quite a lot, enough to play progressions for all 11 loops you may not need to spend this much you can buy them a lot cheaper it depends on what your using it for there great fun smile

Ok a follow up I am ordering the Jeff Beck Fender hot pickups, Fender tuners and a maple neck total cost to update this puppy is $216.00 which includes free shipping I can use the existing wiring (I have the wiring diagram) that should complete the deal basically I will have a new strat without the name Fender on the headstock,  who cares lol

Oh well the world is going in the toilet lol on the bright side my new guitar arrived and it is everything I expected great looks but no coconuts but I knew that going in and my plan was to dump the pickups and put some hot buggers in and replace the neck with a Mighty Mite maple one the dimensions are the same so it will fit nicely also the tuners are kind of cheesy but there's a remedy for that as well I may just gut it and put new wiring along with the pickups all I really wanted was the body color and finish I figure its worth the $111.00 (with shipping) I paid and I can guarantee it will be screaming when I finish it smile

I agree with y'all about the great quality of many Chinese-made guitars. Since most of the "innards" of domestic-made electrics are coming out of the Orient anyway, and many of the woods used are either Asian or African, there's no reason they can't build to our specs and produce fine instruments. A lot of great companies are building their guitars in China, South Korea, and other countries thereabouts. It's a shame for our domestic manufacturers, but reality is that every consumer is looking for the most bang for their buck ... economic times have dictated that. The phrase "disposable income" is no longer a part of the modern vernacular.

When I bought my Epiphone Les Paul Custom a couple of years ago, I was initially shooting for a Gibson Studio so it would be somewhat affordable. When I plugged in the Epi and played it alongside it's Gibson counterpart, my ears could hear virtually no difference. The Epiphone ProBucker pickups are wired using the same components as the Gibson BurstBuckers (both coil-tapping) and sound almost identical to me. There are a few cosmetic differences, but they are inconsequential to the playability of the guitar. So with a price difference of well over $2,000 ... it was a no brainer.

I agree and I still cant understand why it came down to American businesses out sourcing jobs overseas but I suspect union wages and benefits had a lot to do with it, it would seem "American made" is a thing of the past as you pointed out even goods made in the U.S. contain components made overseas with China, India and Europe launching satellites and space probes they have proven they are capable and it wont be long before they walk on the moon and plant there flags "And the times they are a changing"

Very cool Russell!!
I recently picked up a couple chinese builts through "Jack and Danny Guitars"... they get great reviews but sadly are no longer in the biz it seems.

They were awesome units.  The classical still lives and is great to play.  The dread kinda folded up like a cheap suitcase -- didn't like the dry northern winters me thinks.  Too bad.  It had a couple aesthetic flaws but solid voice.  Chinese guitars... who knew??

Enjoy the new axe!
Jim

Thanks Jim I will give it a good workout I agree with the Chinese guitar assessment I had no idea when I picked it up new that it would be near to a American Strat but it blew me away with the crispness of tone and the action was really fast I still use it on most of my videos I only changed necks because I liked the blond for looks and the Standard SO-1 made in China remains an equal to American made Stratocasters I don't know if they make them anymore but I aint getting rid of mine smile

A little practice tip if you are looking to play C D G faster try thinking the word "change" on the last beat of the bar you are playing before changing to the next chord, in other words think ahead  if the song is in 4/4 count 1  2  3  change  1  2  3  change this will help you play the next chord on the 1st beat.  A simple progression would be
                                                                                C  2  3 change   D  2  3 change   G  2  3  change  D  2   3  change and repeat
This will help your tempo, chord change and making the chords clean there is no need to stare at the chord you are on and wait look ahead to the next chord you have to play and thinking "Change" on the last beat of the bar will buy you the extra time to do it

Trans ams, sweet cars and fast I liked the one in smokey and the bandit. I ended up blowing up my moter as I went way out and over revved it.

I did something similar with my 65 mustang stick shift I revved it up let out the clutch and forgot I was near a curb the drive shaft fell out and that was it for the mustang

That should be great Russ!  THis is the guitar I want from Rhondo http://www.rondomusic.com/halowhite2.html  I cant come close to affording a real Explorer.  I want to have old school pin ups (mainly Betty Page) all over it and some screaming pick ups, I may put active ones in for something different now that they can be had with out costing an arm and a leg.

Looking good there and the price is reasonable my experience with Rondo guitars so far has been good smile

Russell ...

You've become the unofficial spokesman for Rondo guitars in these parts. The mods you're looking to do with your latest rig should be very cool ... have fun! When Mark Knopfler once spoke about getting his first Strat, he said: "Of course, it had to be a red one."

TF I have owned several Fender guitars from Strat's,Tele's Jaguars to mustangs my present guitar started out as a Chinese made SO1 Standard copy but that's where the similarity ended I put a Mity Mite neck on Humbucking pickups and rewired it and added some custom tuners total investment less then $400.00 a far cry from the cost of an American Strat and it plays and sounds as nice so this is just another project something I enjoy doing but the color of my newest guitar is beautiful to me that's all that counts the rest is just hardware and wiring and I agree with Mark Knopfler it has to be red. smile
