Re: December Letter To My Chordie Friends (24 replies, posted in Bands and artists)
Neo I am enjoying what everyone is adding to the thread. More the merrier keep it going. I havent been to Perth but everyone I know who goes there tells me it's a beautiful city. My wife visited Fremantle on a ship she was on and loved the place. A young guy who use to do a bit of guitar for me loves playing music in the bars around Fremantle and also in Perth itself. My friend's son use to work out of Perth driving trucks from Perth to Port Headland. Another friend of mine son lived there and life was going good until his other half murdered their 22month old son at Hillarys Boat Harbour. She had claimed at the time that the boy unfastened himself from his stroller while her back was turned but when police reviewed CCTV footage her story did not add up. Thats my two bobs worth on Perth.
Gosh - all I have on NZ is that my Mum went there (think it was her honeymoon), and loved it - she wanted to go back, but unfortunately the cancer came back instead and she passed in 2006.
I grew up very close to the Hillarys boat harbour, and used to go fishing there as a kid (before it was a harbour!), think I played some gigs there (at the old pub, not the new one), definitely played gigs some in Freo, and a few in Perth, never been as far North as Port Hedland, but they get to 50 degrees centigrade up there!!!
Cheers

what does chorus and phrasing mean ?
There are some good audio examples on this page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chorus_effect
Which is probably easier than trying to explain it ![]()

My oldest stepson emigrated to Oz about 10 years ago and we've visited twice. He was living in a suburb of Perth called Mandurah, which is around 60 miles away...
I'm at the other end - about 40km's North of the CBD - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joondalup

I know macs and and pc's that one has to be the oldest working mac I have seen in a long time. If memory serves correctly this one had only large floppies.
The Mac in the first pic is a Mac Plus, this one came standard with a 3.5" drive, but I had a secondary (external) drive, plus a massive HD20, 20 Megabyte external hard disk ...
The Mac with the 8 track connected to it (and the fellow from South Park on the monitor) is a 6200, which has a 3.5" drive, and an internal 600Mb drive - it's had a variety of external HD's attached over the years as backups. The photo of this one was actually the last time it worked, the day after this, it wouldn't turn on, probably leaky capacitors in the PSU, as was common for those era Macs - I was donated a 7200 by a friend and managed to transfer the rest of the files over ...
I also bought a Mac Cube, because I've always liked them, and retro-fitted it with a G4 Stealth card, there is a modern day one being sold here: http://alexhixon.com/projects/jamport/index.html

Cheers

Here is a very short blast on the guitar from me to all you chordies.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_lmEyIJyp7E
Those drawings were pretty impressive; I'm still at the "stick figure" stage
The song was pretty good, but I think one of the strings wasn't quite in tune ... so it must be true that it happens to the best of us ...

That was really good - I can't remember ever hearing that song, although my Mum was a big John Denver fan. When she passed away I got all her old records, so I may even have it in my collection and not know it. Really suited your voice!!!

A late entry (?) Jambalaya:
I crushed my thumb in a microphone stand, damn it hurts, so playing my wife's Uke with a pick ... I must admit I didn't know this song until we did it at our jam session last week, which is why I didn't try it before, but it's pretty easy to do (2 chords!!)

Oops, sorry, missed this one, the guitar is a Denver, Model EF240BR:

I wasn't sure if they still existed, but it appears they do:

This was recorded by the band I was in (we were going to enter it into a contest, but the band
broke up around that time, so was released under the duo):

Re: Liar - an original song (12 replies, posted in My local band and me)
Dumb question, but "in one of my duo's.......": what does that mean (keeping in mind I'm a "Yank")? Were you two musicians at the time? I loved the tune, by the way and I'm glad it's a part of an album. Can one hear it in it's entiriety on you tube, or might you be selling it on Amazon or elsewhere? Well done, and i'd also appreciate knowing where you got that red/black 6-string or is it available only in Perth.
No such thing as a dumb question!! Yes, it was the two of us who remained after the band split up; we worked on this tune and a few others that the band was going to release, although we never performed in public under this band name (however we did a couple of gigs with acoustic guitars):

Here is the artwork from the album:

Here are the songs:
1. U R
2. fiction love (part 1)
3. Honesty (as if!)
4. You Done It
5. Liar
6. Take You Away
7. Matthew
8. fiction love (part 2)
9. Honesty (radio mix)
10. Liar (radio mix)
11. eskimo joe
12. Philosophy as an Art
13. Insane (live)
Enjoy!!

Re: Liar - an original song (12 replies, posted in My local band and me)
Found some more pics of the studio, this was an early version, probably when I first started recording (maybe 1995?):

Slightly later, at my own place, still mixing to tape!!:

This was a couple of years ago, getting the analogue tape mixes into Logic on the Mac:
