Re: facebook (18 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
I'm not intending to take a side on this, but while we can be reasonably certain that the founding fathers didn't envision Facebook or the internet, that they certainly envisioned killing British soldiers in correspondence.
The crime is horrible, and I do think Facebook had some responsibility to do something with their knowledge when they became aware of it, but I also have to think there are thousands if not tens of thousands of schemes plotted on Facebook every year and nothing comes of them. Putting the onus on Facebook to determine which are genuine, which are people running their yaps, and which are ruses to distract from other nefarious plans is not credible. They are a business and not a counterterrorism unit.

Re: The 1st Jet aircraft (27 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
The Black Widow. A very sparse and highly powered plane for its doule duty fighter/bomber. They used it to divebomb enemy runways, which means it had to fly low and fast, get to altitude fast, dive fast while laying down cover, then get the heck out of there, then sometimes dogfight. It did all of that, but Zeros could dogfight better. That's where the Corsairs came in.

Re: The 1st Jet aircraft (27 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
My favorite was the Corsair. It was built for one purpose - to shoot down Zeros. Second was the Black Widow, which when laden was just enough fuselage to strap a pilot and a big honking powerplant to a bomb. Once the bomb was dropped, it could gain altitude super fast to get away and didn't present much profile for enemies to hit, but it carried a LOT of ammunition.

I enjoy fishing of any sort. My favorites are fly fishing in moving water (rivers and creeks, whether from paddle craft or wading) and surf fishing.
I enjoy photography, though I've been an awful slouch of it lately. A friend of mine recently posted some stuff I did of him when we were 14 or 15 years old and I realized that I haven't done any photo work that good for decades. Sad to have peaked before I could legally drive.
I enjoy archery. I don't bow hunt, or hunt after any fashion whatever unless the quarry has gills and fins, but I do enjoy static target archery and 3D target archery. I use a recurve bow without any aiming or targeting sights. While the supreme accuracy one obtains with a fully tricked out compound bow is surely intrigueing, there's something visceral about having my fingers on the string and having to 'feel' the distance and target window.
I like building stuff. I have not done much fine carpentry, though I like it. I've done enough to know that your birdhouses are totally trick! That said, I greatly enjoy rough carpentry. Building a kayak rack or shed or what-have-you is just my kind of thing. Lots of fun.
I enjoy camping, especially by rivers, and especially if there are train tracks nearby. There's little that I enjoy more or relaxes me more than hearing the river current and a train in the near distance. My favorite campground in WV has train tracks right alongside, and a small rapid at the edge. I know just where to pitch my tent to get the maximum effect of them both.
I am on the grand adventure of raising my children. They amaze me with monotonous regularity. We went out for a country drive today and we had a barrel of laughs with one another.

Don't mess with action if you don't know how to do it unless you can afford to have a luthier fix what you mess up if you make a mistake.
That said there are a zillion videos on Youtube to show how to change the action of a guitar. That said, why do you think it's too high, and why would you buy a guitar on which you thought the action was too high without having the shop adjust it before you paid?

Well Nao - I went up to Gettysburg without you and bought a leather strap for $45. He even stamped "ZURF" into it for me and added two more adjustments. It's so nice, I think I'm going to put it on Boomer instead of Tiny. I have the leather strap thingy, but would like to have a proper button put on the neck. Send me the info on that local luthier you found.
Edit to add:
1. You can come here and borrow my tools if you like.
2. You should come out some time and play. I'll call Jets60 and Damien101 and UncleJoesBand isn't too far away once you figure out a time we can do it.
- Zurf

I used to have some of the Caps as clients. They were down to Earth guys, every one of them that I met. It's the only professional sport I know of in which the athletes look forward to grabbing a couple brews with the fans after the game.

I enjoyed "The Commitments".
My favorite part was when the band manager was explaining to the band how the group of pasty white Irish are blacks. It made perfect sense.
Also, when he was yelling at the backup singers for using their own accents, "It's not 'Roid Sally, roid'!!"

Shoot - pretty much every Travis Tritt song is DDDD. DDDD can sound pretty darned good if you've got the right attitude. Who doesn't know "Here's a Quarter, Call Some Who Cares" or "It's a Great Day To Be Alive?" Both of them, DDDD and attitude.

Re: New to Chordie (25 replies, posted in Acoustic)
Welcome to Chordie.
Most Johnny Cash is 4/4 timing, meaning 4 beats per measure, Ring of Fire included.
Don't get hung up on the chord charts. Be willing to play a chord earlier or later, or even a different chord if it makes the song sound better to you.
Learning how to listen closely to a song to pick up changes and rhythms is part of learning music. It's 'ear training.' You'll get it in time as you keep up with it.
