Wow!  Thanks Zurf, that made my day.

He gave the criteria that the song speaks to you. I can't hear River Morning without smelling coffee and wet ashes, hearing water rippling, or feeling cold neoprene.  Though myriver mornings don't involve the roaring rapids and perfet runs of your song, I think the anticipation is the same.

One of the guitars that Jerry Garcia played was an SG.  Eric Clapton played one too.  And also Jeff Beck.  And Angus Young of AC/DC.  SG is right at home playing classic rock, don't you worry about that.   If you sell the SG for anything other than paying for a surgery for your child or rent for yourself or your sainted mother, you'll kick yourself later.  The Kramer might be good in classic rock too, but the brand built its reputation in metal.  I've never played one myself.

It's very, very good stuff.  Without models and serial numbers, there's no way to evaluate on this forum.  However, without serial numbers we can tell you that Kramer doesn't make junk and Gibson SGs are iconic guitars played on stages from Seattle to Nashville to Chicago to London.  Any style of music, you'll find someone playing a Gibson SG.  Kramer is more a dead-ahead shredder machine.

Some folks playing Gibsons...

Best way to improve is to practice and to get advice from others who are working on the same issues. I don't claim to sing well, but I do claim to sing better than I did two years ago.

That's a reasonable long weekend distance for me. Very cool. See you there Jerome.

I've never injured myself.

Unless you count so many facial cuts that I can't remember how I got the scars, and I couldn't recall how many times I had dislocated or broken my shoulders after the orthopedic surgeon gasped at my x-rays, and it's easier to identify the digits I haven't broken than the ones I have.

Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? NO! It's not over until we say it's over.

There's a cave in Virginia that is known for its resonance.  Someone built a pipe organ in it where some of the pipes are actual stalagtites.  Luray Cavern maybe.  You didn't happen to catch if that's the cave did you?

Not only are we permitted to post photos to the forums, but if you get a new guitar we have made it an informal requirement!

I play a Breedlove OM Retro, which is spruce top and rosewood sides, and a Guild D40 Bluegrass Jubilee which has a spruce top and mahogany back and sides.  I was grateful to have had a good bonus one year that permitted me to purchase a guitar with genuine mahogany before all the legal stocks were used up.  I love the sound of mahogany guitars.  I also have an Ovation Magnum 3 bass (solid body mahogany from the early 70's), a Yamaha RBX260F fretless bass which is a solid body of ash, and an Ibanez GAX70 electric which is a solid body Gibson SG knockoff out of some kind of really pretty wood that I don't know what it is but it was made in Indonesia so I probably wouldn't be able to pronounce it anyway.  Whatever kind of wood it is, it sounds fantastic.  I mostly only play the Breedlove (named Tiny) and the Guild (named Boomer).  The Guild I use more for fingerpicking and songs where I want a real deep rich tone (think - Ain't No Sunshine) and the Breedlove is my strummer or when I want a lighter tone (think James Taylor tunes).

Edit to add: I forgot Ol' Reliable, which is a Yamaha F310.  I don't play that guitar much any more, but I learned to play on it.  I'm considering retuning it to an open tuning and learning slide on it.

Is it an Android tablet, Amy?  I have Skype loaded on my tablet and tested it.  It works great.  It's a Samsung android tablet.  Androids should be optimal on Google+.

Oh, and, take a guitar.

Tiny's home.  He had to staple the wires for the electronics back into place.  There was a pick (not mine, and I doubt Dirty Ed's) lodged inside.  The frets needed to be dressed.  He did a minor neck adjustment and replaced the strings.  One of the bridge pins was split and could have been vibrating too, so he replaced the bridge pins with some dense wood ones from Martin.  $75 for the labor - good to his word.  He did charge me for the strings (with my advance permission) and the bridge pins (at my request - he really didn't think they were part of the problem).

Guitar sounds good.

Now I've been in Southwest PA a whole lot, and I do not remember any women with their hips that low or their necks that long.

Good job gigging for those who enjoy it.  I did about three years as bass with a praise band.  It's a kick playing every week.

Welcome to Chordie.

Yeah, I like supporting little guys IF they are good.  Too many small shops just aren't any good.  This particular store is part of a two-store chain that is entirely family run.  When they hire in from outside the family, they must treat them well because the folks working there work there a long, long time.  The owner of the store closest to me isn't real personable, but he spends most of his time working eBay.  They do a lot of trade-in business there, so there's a fair bit of taking beat up old stuff, putting some elbow grease into it, and reselling it on eBay for a profit.  They turn a nice dollar there doing that, so good for them.  The rest of the folks are friendly, even to the point of getting silly sometimes, and good with the instruments.  So, when you get a shop that is well stocked with things that musicians need and want, has knowledgeable and friendly staff, AND is a little guy, then you've got a pretty good combination.

Theory is extremely important except when it isn't.  It's tough for everyone (well, at least for me and I like to tell myself it's hard for others too).  Keep practicing and working on it and it all comes together eventually.  (that's another thing I like to tell myself)

I already welcomed you with your post in Acoustic.  That was good advice you gave to the other new player.  Anyway, welcome again.  We look forward to hearing about your progress, reading your advice and input, and helping you if we can.
