I have found that I will stump when I am trying to learn a long sought goal. And I am famous for biteing off more then I can chew.

To get out of a Stump  I'll listen to one part of a song about 15 seconds .and I will play it over and over till that one part I thought I would never learn is so easy that I wonder why it caused me so much trouble.  and then the rest of the song is a breeze.

like spaminator said adjust your strings as low as they can go.  As close to the fretboard as possible. It will make your bar chords much eaiser to hold and slide.
