Hi ApeDoctor,
I took the liberty of editing in the voodoo bits to make it 'all purdy like'.

This lyric has a very cool haunting feel to it - I like it and would love to hear how it sounds.

Hi 06sc500,
I'll take a stab at this one - but I'm sure there will be plenty of other responses.

Generally speaking, solos should follow the same basic chord and rhythmic cycle as the rest of the song.  So, if the verses are 8 bars long then a solo would be about the same.

Listen to and watch BB King.  I think his playing is so powerful because his solos are phrased like a lyric.  In fact, watching him play you can often see him singing what he is playing.  Consequently, his melodic phrases last about as long as a singer could do on one breath or maybe two.

Hope this is helpful, James

All hail the mighty fix-it man . . .
Just spent most of yesterday and most of today on the phone and web with technical support people at ATT, Linksys, and Apple.  We got a wireless router for Christmas - it is supposed to be easy to install and configure . . . but it was a very frustrating mess.

Turns out there were some glitches in the configuration instructions on the auto install gizmo.

Finally got it up and running a few minutes ago - I feel manly and important again.  Nothing like a series of computer problems to make life miserable.  But, now we are wireless!

Please post Songs (lyrics & chords) here in the Songwriting section.

Please post Poems (words only) in the Poems section of the chordie forum.

This rule is not 'Anti-Poet', rather it is 'Pro-Songwriter'.

Thank You!

Interesting question . . . I went into the user list and sorted by registration date.  Found out that there are dozens of pages of chordie members who all registered on March 4, 2006.

This seems peculiar.  The only explanation I can come up with is that all these members were actually registered prior to March 4, 2006.

Chordie's creator, Per, has improved and expanded the site several times.  Probably at some point all current members were imported together into an updated software version on March 4, 2006.

Upyerkilt (Ken) is the longest serving forum moderator.  Like Ken, I had been using chordie for some time before registering.  After registering, I did not access the forum for some time.

Chordie has undergone many changes since I started using the site.  The index has expanded.  The membership has grown.  Useful features have been added.  Chordie continues to be one of the best-designed and useful sites on the internet.

I stumbled on chordie while searching for lyrics and chords to "When I Paint My Masterpiece".  Little did I know then that I had found one of the internet's masterpieces!

Gentlemen, thank you for your positive feedback!
The idea for this song came from a very brief video clip on my friend Jamie's MySpace page.
Here is Jamie's friend modeling some shiny black pants:
http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fusea … d=43328027

This goofy clip reminded me of a woman I worked with many many years ago.  I can't recall her name anymore, but she had excellent posture.  Sometimes she wore some shiny tight black pants and they made absurd noises as she moved - it was hard not to laugh.

'Sneaky Squeaky Pants' shall be recorded in a day or two . . .

Here is an utterly goofy little ditty - a lively jig and a wry song of sweet love.
It is a slightly belated wedding present to Jamie and her beloved Jeremy.

Hi Kenny - Yep, she has heard the song and says it made her cry happy tears.  I'll send her a link to Ken's version today.

She is a nice person and will soon get over the shock of being dumped - the guy who dumped her will regret letting her get away.

Ken, I really enjoyed hearing your version on MySpace.
It is a thrill to hear an original version of one of my songs.  I'm glad that you didn't listen to my version first because your version is different and very good.  Now I have different perspective on the song and may blend your version in with mine . . .

You captured the essence of the song and I love the harmony bits and the 'sproingy thingy' on the chorus.

Hi Arkady - glad you also like this song.  Yes, the 'new & improve' MySpace music player is still full of bugs.  Seems like they fix one problem and two more pop up.  Shall never understand why they did not test the new player more before releasing it.

Hi Pat,
That is a very ambitious addition to your house . . . congrats on getting the kitchen and dining room finished!  I have lived in houses I was renovating and I know how stressful it can be - the joy of building tends to get overwhelmed by the reality of just how much there is to do.

I have been cleaning today.  Sweeping, scrubbing, scraping, scouring and such.  Stuff is looking better . . . our guests might actually be fooled into thinking we are not slobs.  Our home is not filthy - it's just lived in and real.  This song I wrote a while back sort of sums it up:
http://www.chordie.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=4703

Anyway - to all our chefs, Gentlemen I salute you!  I have neither the patience or skill to prepare delicious meals.  However, I am always appreciative of meals that anybody else has prepared . . . I will gladly do the scullery work but my cooking skills are minimal.

OK - back to cleaning . . .

Ken, I worked as a short order cook many years ago.  I had my grill and ovens and my tools all just how I wanted them.  It was a little cafe where we did a big breakfast rush every day.  I wasn't the only cook there - but there was only one cook per shift.  We each had our preferred way of doing things.

It was an alright job - I liked the fast pace and the challenge of keeping up with all the orders - it was fun.  But I hated smelling like grease all the time.  The kitchen/fry smell was inescapable even after bathing and changing clothes.

Nowadays, I'm more than happy to let my wife do the meals.  She has all her stuff just how she likes it - to me it makes absolutely no sense where she puts things.  However, if I went in there and "fixed" it, she would make me suffer mightily for disrupting her world.

By the way - that window is still broken . . . but I have made some progress on a little blues song about Molecules (I figure its the only way to write a song about 'Everything').

Kitchen cupboards and drawers - looks to me that ours are full of junk.  Seems like somebody should go through it all and discard all the unused bits.  However, I am going to take charlotte's advice and leave it all alone . . . the kitchen is my wife's domain.

Ken, keep up the cleaning - but messing with what is in the cabinets and drawers is very dangerous stuff.  Better to go scrub the bathroom and wash windows and vacuum under all the furniture.

I've got to fix a broke window now - hopefully I won't make it any worse!

I have a few days off from work, so I shall finally get around to several repair jobs around the house - not the most exciting stuff, but needed and satisfying in it's own way.

Since we have relatives coming for Christmas visits, it is important 'The Mighty Fix-It Man' gets here before Santa arrives . . .

Anybody else in the same situation?

OK, so I should have doing other stuff yesterday afternoon.  But, I took some time to record 'Everything Unsaid'.

After several attempts to churn up the appropriate intensity and ferociousness, I had only succeeded in getting hoarse and blistering my thumb . . .

The song is now up at my "Songs for Human and Autoharp" MySpace page:
http://www.myspace.com/r200james
Please give it a listen?
Perhaps someday after my thumb heals and my voice is better, I'll give it another go . . . I'll also practice using thumb and finger picks for these sorts of thrash & howl tunes.

Hello, Mike
I have taken the liberty of editing your post to make it "all purdy like".  I hope I got the chord placements correct.

You can click on the 'edit' button to the bottom right of your song to see how the secret coding works.  Please fix any mistakes I might have made.

You have certainly addressed a difficult subject in this song - I wish that adoption were not necessary, but it is certainly a blessing for people hoping to welcome a child into their hearts.  I have great respect for the new mothers who have the courage to make such a difficult decision.

I was stunned to learn a few years ago that Joni Mitchell had made this difficult decision when she was young.  The revelation that she had given a baby girl to adoption brought great insight into the poignancy of her many love songs.

Good song - I hope I have not offended you by editing your work to make it look 'all purdy like'.

You know, one of the best things about becoming more mature and mellow is that we (men) can actually finally start using our brains . . .

I have also met this woman many times - now that I'm a little bit wiser, I can see her a bit more clearly since my vision is not quite so clouded by hormonal frenzy.

Hi daddycool!
Is it not enough that the good people of Britain must cope with werewolves prowling the moors?  Now you're telling me there is feline predator lurking about and marauding through the peaceful hills and dales???  'Tis surely the end times . . .

I love these sorts of mysterious events - big black cats on the loose in Britain, Big Foot loping through the forests, Chupacabra roaming through the land.  I'm sure there is plenty of speculation as what this mysterious critter might be.

Good song - keep 'em coming.

This one is another full-frontal folkie rant - - - stomp & growl, thrash & howl . . . . by the time you are done singing this ditty, people nearby should be flecked with spittle and fearing for their personal safety.

Hey, I realize this is in a ugly key for guitar - but it's good for my autoharp.

Thanks, gentlemen for your positive feedback on this little morsel.

I recorded 'Tick Tock' earlier today and it is now up here:
"Songs for Human and Autoharp"
http://www.myspace.com/r200james

Would love to hear any other versions of this one - now that I listen to my recording, I wish I had done it a little more slowly and tenderly . . . live and learn . . .

My working title for this song was "Forever in Your Eyes" - but then I discovered that Jessica Simpson recently had a song by that very same name.  Since I am also blond and extremely cute, I knew that the public would be easily confused . . . so I decided 'Tick Tock' was a better title anyway!

Hello, All1Song
That was 3 1/2 minutes of my time very well spent!  Great version of a great song.  I believe that great songs are kept alive by people like us playing them . . . the original recordings are wonderful - - but I would much rather hear a from-the-heart rendition of a song than hear the recording yet again.  That was a truly beautiful interpretation of the song - thanks and keep on playing from the heart.  James

Kenny, this is some very cool stuff.  I would love to see these in person - walk around them, touch the wood, meet the artists.  I would also really enjoy watching the whole carving process.  This is the sort of stuff that fires my imagination - thanks!  James
